Default gas cap?

has anybody used one of these Vortex untis? any problems arise? the reason i ask is that i had one on the Hotrod m944. then my gas tank started to leak. it could have been a coincidence. lot's of older monsters have tank leaks. DNA replaced my tank this summer. it's all new and perfect now. i really like the look and functionality of these caps but don't want another leaker. one thing i noticed when i had this type of cap on the old tank was an escape of air when i opened the tank to refuel. the cap seems to be vented. what would cause this?

I don't have experience with this cap, but where was your monster leaking at? Most of the cases of leaking tanks I have heard of were where the tank attaches to the hinge.

As for the the escape of air - my monster and both superbikes do that - all with original gas caps. My jeep does that sometimes too. I think that must just be a buildup of pressure? But if yours is vented?????? I think the stock ones are vented too are they not? I really have never inspected them, but for some reason I think they are vented, maybe someone could clear that up for us?

the monster tank leaked at the hinge like most i've seen will.
my stock cap never "burps". i know my truck will if i've been off roading and bouncing around.

I had something similar to that cap. I didn't like it because the vent didn't work, and it was bitch to take off to fill up the tank because of the pressure. I used to leave the cap loose so the pressure wouldn't be the same. However, at times the gas would come out from it. Furthermore, if the pressure was too great, it will start leaking from other places. My 748s started leaking from the left side where there is a T connection with gas hoses. I am not sure if it was related to the fuel cap though.

I went back to the stock cap, and I've never had any problems.

I've used quite a few of those. They don't vent real well, but they do vent. When you screw it on, don't put it on too tight (common mistake).

I have the Vortex vented cap = works okay, but does leak a little bit. And it;s not the easiest thing to unscrew sometimes eitehr.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with it.
