I'm looking for a cheapo way to dress up my clutch. I like the way the anodized pressure plates from various manufacturers look, but I'm a cheap bastard and don't particularly want to fork out the cash for one. Has anyone ever tried just painting it with a high temp enamel such as Krylon or the like?
Maybe it's a bad idea, but before anyone asks me how many bedrooms my trailer has or where I get my tooth cleaned, keep in mind I'm a student on a budget...
You don't have to throw cash around - I asked the same question and all I got was positive replies. Clean the pressure plate good prep for paint correctly and use a hi temp engine paint. I'm in the process of preping a clutch basket that is also getting painted along with the pressure plate. If you want to just dress a clutch up aesthetically and are on a budget, this is the best way to go
it's that kind of pearly look stuff - lots of slightly metallic green and blue tool boxes of old, that sort of stuff. grey too. you can get it in a can. comes in a full range of colours over here.

over here it's called Hammerrite , quarts or gallons ... not sure if it comes in ratttle cans ,, none of my warehouses stock it
Thanks for the replies. Time for a trip to Home Depot. When you painted it did you pop out the bearing, or did you just mask it off? Is there anything other than cleaning it off with acetone or thinner that I need to do prior to paint? I've never painted aluminum so I don't know if it's any different than plastic or steel.
Well, this thread inspired me to go ahead and get the pressure plate done, so I started last night and finished up early this morning. I'll post pics tonight. I just masked off the bearing - worked fine. Also I scuffed the surface with steel wool then cleaned it up again before paint.
i gave mine a good bath in h20, let dry in the sun (it was summer), masked mine off, then shot about 3 coats of rustoleum red that i had laying around. left it under a heat lamp for a few hours and as stated above it looks great 3 years later.
Well here is the pressure plate. I just got done filing and painting the basket, polishing up the springs, and painting the spring caps. I decided while I'm in here I should replace the disks - they have a ton of miles on the 18,421 to be exact. Unless someone switched them out before and didn't tell me, but they look original. So I'll order those today and post some pics when it is all back together if anybody is interested.
Sorry about the bad lighting. It is much more red than that, it almost matches the Ducati red.
Here is the clutch basket, pressure plate and retainers all freshly painted, and springs polished up. All of these have over 18,000 miles on them. It looks like they will get a second life....
Didn't get a chance to run to the store for paint, but now I've definitely got to go seeing how well your stuff came out. I didn't even think about painting the spring collars. Maybe I'll paint the bolts as well with some modeling paint when all is installed.
i'd relocate the ohlins remote reservoir - the line is resting on/ or is near the engine which is a heat source. the whole point of the remote reservoir is to keep the gas contents cool for better flow.
