Shazaam,

The HID Express one fits just fine, I just purchased one last week and installed it. In fact, the system is made in Japan (you know the Japanese, they are very very meticulous about things). The H3 HID bulb length is shorter compared to the standard HID bulbs, its made to have the same focal point as the H3 bulbs. It fits the stock light housing just fine (you do have to bend the hold clip on the bulb housing though). Also, the system uses weather proof connectors from Wurth Germany(the same weather proof connectors Ducati used on all of our bikes). The system has a separate igniter and ballast, so installation was easy, although I had the wires running a little short... I am going to try to post pics of my install when I get home tonight (only if any of you are interested...).

BTW, if any of you should wonder, I do not work for HID Express, I'm just a happy customer. [IMG][/IMG]

Pic of my install of HID Express system

A side by side comparison of the HID Express bulb and a H3 bulb. Note that the focal point kept the same. Also, the HID bulb is "shorter" than most re-based HID bulbs that might lead focal point problems.

A few more:

The igniter had to go under the coolant reservoir due to limited wire length.

This is from approx. 2 feet away. I put a box centered with the headlight.
Thanks.

Mikey,

Gotta give me a few days. I currently have no brake pads in the bike, expecting shipment of replacement pads in the next couple of days. Why not just roll it out you say? Cause my "crib" is on top of a steep hill

PS Is it just my imagination, or are you being impolite? I'm not expecting a "P-L-E-A-S-E", but how about "Do you think..." or "Can you..."'s? After all we are all civilized and grown ups? Just a thought...I hope you don't take offense, its just that if it was me asking questions I would at least ask differently.

Or maybe newbies to the forum like me must first establish presence?

Eitherway, I'm curious about Shazaam's comments on focal point, so I will post pics the first chance I get.

Thanks!

From your picture it seems that the installation in the polyellipsoidal low beam fixture is preventing a sharp cut-off of the beam. Notice how the pattern peaks above the cut-off level. This will cause glare to oncoming traffic which is the main reason that the feds are cracking-down on aftermarket HIDs. I would put the unit in the high beam fixture.

Again, the low beam fixture/reflector was designed for a H3 bulb that has a side-to-side filament. The HID capsule CENTER may be at the focal plane but there are now portions of the arc that are ahead and behind the focal plane that were't there before with the H3. These portions are not being focused properly causing the peak in the light pattern you see.

Compare this to a sharp cut-off below.

Don't forget to check your owners manual as to how to properly aim your lights. Set-up the bike at the proper distance from a blank wall and set the beam height. I'd like to see a picture of the light pattern on that blank wall. I think you'll agree the high beam fixture is a better choice for the install.

Once I get my bike going, I will go and face a wall like that in your picture. Hopefully it'll look similar. I am aware of the beam adjustment procedure in the manual. How far back is the bike from the wall? Is it 10 meters like in the manual?

On another note, putting the HID in the high beam fixture will definitely cause more glare for oncoming traffic. I believe you of all people (for a person who is concerned about glare to oncoming traffic) should know. Are you going to use the D2R or D2S type bulbs?

Have a great day!

auxo,

wasn't intending to come off as impolite at all, just trying to get by with as little typing as possible...sorry.

basically, i was looking to get the same info shazaam was...the beam cut-off.

imho, i'm not sure that using the highbeam reflector will yield results that are any better than the low beam with an improper focal point of the bulb. has anyone noted the beam pattern of the high beam...its fricking horrible. there's no proper cut-off or uniform patter...and thats with the proper bulb!!!

Mikey,

I got ya. So it was indeed just my imagination...please excuse the "touchy feely" side of me, breathing all that smog in LA is bound to have some hormonal effect on people.

I will post pics as soon as possible.

Thanks!

looking forward to your pics...but definitely get those breaks in first!

this is one of the mods i've been wanting to do but i think i will probably try to retrofit an entire hid projector assembly instead of just a plug in bulb...unless of course your beam patter or, atleast, the light output is significantly improved over the crappy stock one.

Sorry for the delay, I just received my pads yesterday (no, really) I received a shipment last week but was sent the wrong pads!

This may sound like I'm trying to avoid showing pictures, but I sustained a torn muscle in the right shoulder and literally cannot exert any strength in the right arm . I heard a snap in my shoulder while lifting weights...makes me realize you are not 20 forever...

I will gets the pads in and have someone take it out and take pictures this weekend.

Stay tuned.

damn...sorry to hear about the shoulder.

seriously, don't go out of your way, especially if it might cause more harm to you (or the bike if you can't hold it up). i'll be more patient...i promise

Mikey,

I will be taking my bike out to take a photo of the beam pattern by the end of the week. Thanks for waiting, I'm getting back riding after long long rehab of my shoulder (now at about 80%).

Stay tuned.
