This weekend 5 Oakland (S.F.Bay Area) police officers were shot, 4 of them mortally by a 23 y/o parole violator who should have NEVER been on the streets to begin with. The scumbag perp was wanted for multiple parole violations, and was suspected of committing at least one murder after being released in November. In addition to the horror of the officers losing their lives, (in addition to the perp who met his just end by being fully ventiliated be OPD) the crowd that gathered at the crime scene staged a demonstration CONDEMNING THE POLICE FOR "EXCESSIVE FORCE" and saying that it was "RITEOUS PAY BACK" for the shooting by a white officer of a black man on New Years Eve....... At what point can we just give any law abiding citizens of Oakland 24 Hrs.to get outta Dodge then call in an airstrike and start over. Oakland has become crime central on the West Coast, with an inept, clueless Mayor (Ron Dellums) and an equally incompetent City Council that just last month voted "no confidence" in the Police Chief who's done nothing but try and maintain morale in a department who's getting ZERO backing from the city officials they serve. I'm sure someone will chime in on the why's and how's of a population who's lost all respect for themself and the city they live in. About why it's OUR fault as a society for not forcing kids to stay in school, and for not giving them better "role models".........save it. At some point people are going to say Enough is enough, but untill then, all we have is more dead police officers..............

I just read the news.. That is just disgusting. It reminds me of that sack of shit who went on a courthouse rampage in Georgia(I think). Just too bad he wasnt shot right away my the CHIPS or just killed his lame ass self. At least he's dead.
Gotta feel for those families...
What a shocker... how depressing. Be careful out there NYC.
As expected all the local politicians are screaming for more new gun laws (the perp was a multi time felon on parole with a .45, a 9mm and a FULL AUTO AK47) We don't need any more gun laws, we need to ENFORCE the ones we have!!!! (The REAL question is why did the bleeding heart court system let this piece of shit out to begin with!!!!!)

This is also a huge problem with police unions who also lobby for tougher gun laws because they feel it will keep more police officers safe but the reality is that they need to lobby for tougher punishment on violent offenders. The police really have their hands tied with repeat violent offenders and they need to start doing something about it, in New Orleans the police are viewed in a negative way and I'm sure most big cities are the same. I also don't understand why the two SWAT guys ran in on a barricaded subject without a level 3 shield, cops call this tombstone courage and who ever was in charge should be punished for not protecting those two officers.
For nearly three decades, most states have dealt with lawbreakers in two ways: lock more of them up for longer periods, and build more prisons to hold them. Now many governments, out of money and buried under mounting prison costs, are reversing those policies and practices.
Some states, like Colorado and Kansas, are closing prisons. Others, like New Jersey, have replaced jail time with community programs or other sanctions for people who violate parole. Kentucky lawmakers passed a bill this month that enhances the credits some inmates can earn toward release....
Being tough on crime and sentencing has long been the clear path toward job retention for state lawmakers — Republicans and Democrats alike. But the economic crisis is forcing them to take a more pragmatic approach as prisoners are increasingly seen less as indistinct wrongdoers and more as expenses that must be reined in....
"Recessions tend to prompt changes to corrections policies. After the recession at the start of this decade, numerous states enacted laws eliminating some long mandatory minimum sentences; several began to offer early release and treatment options to some drug offenders. Those changes, though, were far less reaching than what is happening now and did little to curb exploding corrections budgets.
In the past 20 years, correction department budgets have quadrupled and are outpacing every major spending area outside health care, according to a recent report by the Pew Center on the States. With 7.3 million Americans in prison, on parole or under probation, states spent $47 billion in 2008, the study said."
--------------
What bothers me so much is how the incompetent parole board people consider paroles of violent psychopaths and non violent offenders with the same pen. The parole officials should have to let them stay half way in their own house to "make sure" they are OK for general release. These nameless "officials" just sign away faceless offenders into darkened streets. They need to own up. Shut down their violent, psychopathic, "halfway house of horror" operations.

Crazy, maybe they were super angry, impatient, "pumped", inexperienced, or a simple mistake? The grief of it all.

bafflebrain Very tragic. Reminds me of the not too distant slaying of 4 RCMP officers in Alberta:
A few points;
1. Shite! This must be a sign of the apocalypse, (sp?) gag and I agree on something! The parole boards MUST be held accountable for the release of these thugs. They (in Calif) operate behind closed doors, and with "determinate sentencing" sometimes the law dictates they HAVE to be released even though they are a clear danger to society.
2. The brave officers had a tough choice, the perp shot 2 motor officers during a "routine" traffic stop, when they got his ID and walked back to their bikes to run him he emerged from his car, shot both, and when they were on the ground, he shot each one in the face.....All in droad daylight on a busy street. He ran 1 block to the apartment he was sharing with family and the police that responded were notified of his location. It was a 3 story bldg. and his unit was on the ground floor at the entrance. The police could not evacuate the bldg. for fear of exposing people to gunfire from the unit. They knew at least one family member was also inside (his young niece) so they made entrance, used flash bangs and from a rear bedroom closet (closed) the perp opened up thru the sheetrock wall with a full auto AK47, hitting 2 officers in the head (thru a closet wall AND a bedroom wall) and hitting a 3rd in the shoulder. The remaining officers unloaded into the room, killing him (hopefully with maximun suffering). It was a 1 in a million set of shots, and a desicion that had to be made on the spot. Now the douchebags in the "community" are saying the Oakland P.D. used "excessive force" in firing so many rounds (by the way the young niece was un-hurt in the melee) and are making thier feelings public by urinating in front of news crews on the memorial site where the officers went down. I could go on and on about why the perps family should be charged with accessory to murder and harboring a known fugitive, (they knew he was on the run as a parole violator and had lied to the P.D. about his whereabouts), but it wouldn't change a thing. 4 dead officers/husbands/dads. Somethings gotta change or we all lose.

economically speaking it would be more effecient to round up these good for nothing shit bags and hang them. Setting up a system to rehabilitate individuals is not financially feasable even in the best of times, and with the social conditions that often lead to these actions never being handled or mitigated effectively these situations will keep occurring. The only real solution is an ultimate penalty of death or extremely long incarceration.
Ask yourself..... if you knew your fate would be death, in what way would you act? Would you rape and murder? Eventually everyone that has it in them to commit these actions would get the message and think twice, no? And if not then these people would eventually be eliminated one by one... Some people need just that little bit of extra motivation to act in a socially acceptable way...
Some people need just that little bit of extra motivation to act in a socially acceptable way...
And some people need just a little bit of extra motivation to act in a socially unacceptable way. The prison/rehab system that we have gives way too many of them a big dose of extra motivation. We take bad people and teach them to be worse, then we put them on the street.
But the main problem is the parents of these people and the broken down social fabric, mainly the missing dads, and the lack of rules when growing up. It's easy to see how a ghetto kid, with no dad, a crack whore mom, and no rules about anything can end up killing cops. It's a no-brainer. I'm just glad I wasn't in Mixon's shoes. I'd like to think I would turn out fine but each of us has his limits so you never really know. These kinds of tragedies always lead to all kinds of finger-pointing...and for good reason.
As if it hasn't been said before,
Why the **** does ANYONE need or want a semi-auto weapon, that can even be converted to full auto? We are our own worst enemies in so many ways.
My condolences to the families, but now were gonna see another God damned exhibition of waste as a zillion cops who didn't even know these fellas migrate all around the state so they can pat each other on the back on a day of blackness. Watch, mark my words. Soon we'll see cycle cops riding side-by-side (JUST LIKE THEY TELL US NOT TO), wasting time and putting on a show for the brotherhood. Their supporters will be glued to the TV, teary eyed, and then they'll flip to FOX NEWS and cry to no end about high taxes, wastefull spending, gun control and the advantages of incarceration over rehabilitation. Once again, it's all about who's ox is getting gored. I just hope that ox is not my son or yours...or any peace officer.

I agree with some of your points but you should do more research on prisons and criminal MO, most of these guys have arrest records that show a clear history of violence, the truth is the ratio of arrest to convictions is to far off. We cut to many deals with violent offenders, and I don't know how you could make an excuse for some one that would rob another human being at gun point, there is no way to excuse that type of behaviour and your type of thinking is what is letting these violent offenders back on the streets. How are the drug dealers and crack whores going to change if they have you to make excuses for them. As long as we tolerate them, they will be here ruining peoples lives. When the kids who look up to Mixon see that he gets out of prison with more respect in the community for his violent actions it sends a much more powerful message than any lesson they will learn while being in govt custody. Imagine if we could pluck all the bad influences from our communities.
The courts have already ruled that the police are not here to protect us so I wont argue with any one who wants to have a weapon to protect themselves from the violent criminals our govt allows to run the streets.
The douchebag had a looooong criminal history starting with felony assualt conviction at 13! (note, that was just the first time he was CAUGHT.....) He the graduated to carjacking, rape, armed robbery and murder. He was paroled in Oct. last year, and they had him on a murder charge within WEEKS of his release, but the witnesses all were killed themselves or changed their testamony out of fear of retribution.(they've seen the revolving door of the court "system") He has also been positivly linked (thru DNA) to 5 RAPES since his Oct. release, including one of a 12 year old who he pistol whipped and sodomized......Some will deny it, but there exists TRUE EVIL in our world, animals like mixon (intentional non-capital spelling, he doesn't rate it) who are beyond rehabilitation, are a waste of air, food, water and taxpayer money to keep them alive. It costs more to keep them in maximum security yearly than it would to spend the money "salvagable" kids thru Princeton or Harvard. Everyone deserves a fair trial if charged with a crime, in death penalty cases there should be a new trial within 6 months, if found guilty a 2nd time, march 'em off and smoke 'em. Period. Save the hand wringing and tears for the 12 year old rape victim and the wives and children of the murdered officers. All the current system does is graduate criminals with a PHD in crime and higher stature in the 'hood 'cuz they be bangin' hard gangsta's when they come home. We don't need new laws, we need to use the ones we have, and start holding the judges and probation/parole officers who release these pieces of shit onto the streets personally and criminally responsible for their actions. One last thought, if one of the victims he carjacked had been carrying, maybe we wouldn't be burying 4 Dads tommorrow.......

No one said he wasn't a douchebag. He got what he deserved at this point in time. But we're raising a whole generation of these turds and it will drag down this country if we don't change direction. When it comes to saving kids from Mixon's outcome there is no price to pay that is too high. The foster home system, the prison system, the education system, parenting, trade schools, etc., etc. It's time to ask ourselves, do we cut off our noses to spite our faces or do we grin and bare it and invest yet more dough and some new ideas into the inner cities? I just saw a pilot rehab program in San Fran on the news last night. The Obama admin. is looking at it because it is working very well. Personally, I'd rather have fewer douchebags around and I'm willing to redirect our resources toward that goal. For starters we can scrap the F-22 and the Osprey, and please, no more ships named after ex-Presidents .

I will hazard a guess that there will be no US Naval ships named after the 42nd or the current President. That should save us some serious money...
