I wonder how long it will be before the US will be forced to say "nay" to Israel by worsening economical and political conditions.
And Israel too needs to be extra careful: her own financial conditions are rapidly deteriorating and recent military operations proved that, despite sci-fi technology and advanced training, even the legendary Tsahal infantrymen and tank crews are starting to become demotivated and tired, as the botched Lebanon invasion proved. Not even intensive propaganda can overcome simple war exhaustion.
Also both countries need to understand that while "Arabian" leaders can be bought off by money and weapons, the masses cannot. Egypt is a timebomb: Mubarak's regime is kept in power only by an extensive repressive apparatus which sadly remembers the Persian Shah's. And we all remember that despite all the brutalities and the US made weapons in the end "our man" was thrown out of power by the ayatollahs (backed by a very p***ed off population).
I will not even mention Saudi Arabia because that country's politics are impenetrable even by their fellow Muslims but I wonder how long the selfish and quarrelsome ruling family will be able to stay in power.
In the history of mankind large superpowers have often used "lesser" states and civilizations to their advantage: the Byzantines got rid of the Goths by setting them against the wretched Western Empire, the shrewd Richelieu got the bellicose Swedish king to fight against the Hapsburg armies... but rarely we have seen an economic and military superpower being used by a "lesser" country in the way the US is.

Or from the Arab viewpoint, the friend of my enemy is my enemy. Israel would be a great friend if it didn't have so many enemies. But it wouldn't have so many enemies if it weren't for the reasons that we've discussed over and over. Israel is a cancer and they make it so. Israel is another Shaw of Iran...and another South Africa.
Funny but didn't Hezbollah and Hamas gain control through democracy? So did the hopelessly corrupt Iraqi government.
