Default Patriotic nominees?

Before the election, Vice President Biden said it was patriotic to pay more taxes.

Geithner, Daschle (what happened to the lobbyist ban?), Killefer... what happened? I wish Obama could have found some patriotic people to nominate for these positions. It would be especially neat if a tax cheat wasn't going to be in charge of the IRS. Maybe Joe could have helped.

Do as I say...not as I do. I am sure the list of politicians cheating on taxes can go on for miles.

Gee, I wonder if you or I "forgot" to pay taxes if we'd get off with an excuse like "gee, I must have "overlooked" that $44,000.......(seems like the reason that kenedy got passed on for Senate was taxes..........

That does make sense. Why would he want to work for the man when he can make at least $3million/year NOT lobbying?

Did he say "to pay taxes", or did he say "to pay more taxes"? Just wondering.

By the way, I just filed my '07 return last month and still haven't filed my '07 state return. I guess I forgot - no kidding! But I'm getting a refund on both so it's not a problem. Frankly I have no way of knowing if Daschel or Geithner were trying to stiff us or what. I do think it's plausable that someone in that position could let these things slip. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if they were crooks, especially Geithner. There's just no way to know at this point.

More.
Biden calls paying higher taxes a patriotic act - Barack Obama News- msnbc.com

Everybody has the option to pay more taxes, ya know. I can only assume our patriotic Vice President was paying a little extra into the system all these years. We know he wasn't giving any money to charity!

I'll bet there is an aspect of proportion to all the lack of tax payments. When you make millions, what's 20 grand (to pull a number out of the hat)? You see this kind of behavior in all aspects of the rich life, whether it's ordering a thousand dollar bottle of wine, or whatever. They have bigger peanuts than we do. Their drop in the bucket is a laddle-full to us. So, I don't find it so shocking that they don't take a percentage of their taxes seriously. Naturally it would look bad to the average person though.

What this country needs is:
A GREATLY SIMPLIFIED TAX CODE WITH NO WRITE OFFS, INCENTIVES, DEDUCTIONS, OR ANY OTHER AVENUE OF OBFISCATION! Then you need an IRS that can handle the policing of payments. They can't keep up with it as it is. Better yet you have a base rate consumption tax that everyone pays. Then only rich people will have to pay the step-ups in a progressive system. That way, it would be easy for the IRS to watch the tax dodgers because they would be so few. You could also decrease the size of the IRS greatly while at the same time increasing the flow of dollars to the government through better collection (not higher taxes).

I have a question about the non-payment of taxes. When these people die, is the IRS able to find the unpaid taxes? Aren't these people going to have to pay in the end, and aren't they going to have to fork over large interest and penalties? Just wondering. I seriously doubt I would get away with the fraud so I don't see how someone rich could (unless they are hiding money off shore). Any accountants ride bikes?

I think everyone would agree with this. Hopefully Geithner agrees, too, since it was too hard for him to do his own taxes even with the Turbo Tax help.

Obama's Labor Secretary nominee is in tax trouble today. At least they all have something in common.

I don't trust Geithner to do anything to help anyone but him and his kind. He was one of the main parties to the credit fiasco and has shown no guilt. He's the one Obama appointment that I'm really disappointed with.

Is Jerry Brown still alive?

The flat tax is another dumb idea. Why the hell are we taxing work at all? Don't we want people to work? Isn't income tax a disincentive to work? We should be taxing consumption, not work. Rememeber, it's pretty hard to avoid paying taxes when you make a purchase.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! Exempting basic living needs (food, fuel, shelter, medical) up to a reasonable figure. Then tax ALL purchases at 10-15%, so when Donald Trump buts a $25,000,000 jet, or I buy a $25,000 bike we pay proportunatly the same tax. Eliminates the underground economy, illegal aliens pay with every purchase, and global warming is a thing of the past.......(almost).
