as much as i hate harper (he is the devil incarnat) the alliance formed by a pro-separatist party (which has never even run on a national scale), and the ndp pupper master (layton), lead by a guy who lead his party to the worst election defeat only 7 weeks ago (dion) gives me little hope; not to mention there is no way in hell for these parties to cooperate for any period of time beyond which they would need to take power. just the talk of a 30 billion$ stimulus package, with a substantial chunk going to timber and the auto industry make me ANGRY.
i wish it would have played out like this: confidence vote happened next week, harper is kicked out and subsequently the GG not changing the government to 'the alliance' but calling another election.
fwiw, if the liberals/ndp/bloc don't succeed in january, they are doomed. if they gave a crap about the country, they would;ve formed an alliance before the election.

I am still in shock over the voter turnout in my country. America's democracy was so brilliant this year and, following that amazing election you guys just had, I am embarrassed at my people's turnout... we kind of got what we deserved.

Steven Harper is a NeoCan(Canadian NeoCon). People like him gain power through crisis or apathy. Dion is also a scary character who is wholly rejected by Canadian voters but still campaigning to win. They are all so slimy! WTF.

Obama has it right... keep your friends close.. your enemies closer and fill your cabinet with people from all sides! We needed our own change so, with this complete Canadian meltdown... by golly, we'll get it.

I truly believe that arrogance did Steven Harper in. Most Canadians are very "UP" on American politics and that means we are sick of seeing arrogant leaders who lie and slime a polarizing, narrow agenda on the rest of us. We too are sick of the NeoCons!! We Canadians have endured one slimy scandal after another, one lie after another, one incompetence after another in our affairs. Comes a time when an entire nation changes in a way that makes these guys obsolete, defunct and deliriously dangerous. I think thats what the Right wing base is now... dangerous.

We need to put a premium back on honesty, integrity, competency and long term security. Tell the truth and do a good job... pretty simple. All this polarized wingism is lifting poor Icarus higher and higher. We have the facts and yet we listen to stupid people because... this is a democracy and even stupid people have to be heard and are allowed to be elected to control the government!!! WOW!

The only safe thing to do is inform the citizens of the TRUTH and insist they vote. That is it, no more dodgy, Dick Cheney philosophy that he knows best or that we "wouldn't understand" why he is disobeying the laws that protect the entire world, internation conventions or good ole American trustworthiness!!

The current right wing base is narrow minded, afraid of their own shadow, full of hate and fairy tales... sad to say it but that is not great group to put on the world stage or turn to for long term, inclusive, competent leadership. What replaces Sarah Palin and her simpleton flock will reflect our hopes for long term survival, it is BTW, the duty of every real man to assist. I am not crazy to say this, or bias in any way. Sarah believes in the rapture... that's a serious conflict of interest to any person who cares about our philosophy, heritage, customs and future. She, and her "faithful" would be willing to wager our future on their faith... thanks but no thanks. Where she gets her fools I simply cannot understand it except to attribute it to stupidity and fear.

I hope for no more scum bags second guessing and defacing the foundations of our nations. I hope Americans allow no more shifty, demented, greedy cowards justifying their subversion of the founding father's life's work!!! Madison and Jefferson would have died of grief if they surveyed the Bush Administration and their ignorant flock.

Both our nations are deeply influenced and directly steered by the spirit of ancient Greek Democracy.. may they remain that way until we're smart enough to find a better method... No more 40% voter turnout in National elections!!! That sad scenario let the first Bush in office and it sits at the heart of the current crisis in Canada. Not voting should be a crime and, in fact, it was a crime in early Greek democracy.

40% of the population voting is waaaaaay too high a percentage, they should go back to where you had to be a property owner to be able to cast a ballot. Too many morons voting on the basis of soundbites and hairstyles. And not to disagree with your assesment of the "far right", the "far left" is equally f-ed up. (remember jimmy (gag!) carter?

That's right, go ahead and remove the right to vote for 3/4 of the US's armed forces, since most of us are not property owners.

How about inner city school teachers who are struggling to pay the rent? Yeah... they shouldn't vote either.

She right about a few things there... no doubt. However, so DEAD wrong in others.

One long ago day, Government went out and began funding environmentalists, not true-at-heart ones who conserve the land against urban blight and pollution, but radical environmentalists like Greenpeace, who over time became as rich and powerful as any of the robber barons.
So now this is what a right winger does, looks at Greepeace's bad plays and deduces that the environment is fine and "open for business"... drives me crazy. NOTHING will ever compare to Mr Smaoking Industry puppet, GWB opening doors for Business to save money by skirting the EPA. Bankrupt souls selling America's natural backbone.

Governments caved into environmentalist demands on eminent domain issues that confiscated land on the glib alibi it was to protect endangered species, never recognizing human beings as endangered species.
If it were up to the right wing, we'd have one species left on earth. Even that unfortunate critter would be mismanaged. I mean, to actually cry that we humans are endangered so we should then be able to endanger other critters, systems etc. The Sarah Palin 101 approach to the ecology.

I am sure she's comfortable with blaming every ill on socialism. She's a right wing job so of course it's someone else's fault. The FACT the Bush&Co. steered right into this social iceberg is irrelevant to a right winger now a days. They have already started their bitching, frothing, blaming and they still dont want to talk about fixing, compromise, apologies etc. They didnt want to while in power and now they just want to be divisive and dumb... just what the Terror Wrists want. ...sigh.

And it still is..... in Australia. It is a fineable offense that can also follow with a prison sentence. There is no reason why this would be opposable, it should be equated and seen as the same as jury duty

Should we go back to slavery as they had as well? Some like to put ancient democracies up on a pedestal, while in truth they were nice for rich white male citizens and sucked for everyone else.

And as you have argued many times, rich white men are the cause of all our current troubles...

I couldnt argue a case for perfection in ancient democracy. I understand the myriad of trails and tribulations that befuddled the ancients and fuddles us too. What you have to understand is that the "ancient democracies" are only one. From Athenian democracy comes the debate on this forum on this day. Simple stuff really. In the long chain of evolution, it is men growing up and taking responsibility for, knowledge, understanding, their voice and their country(and now the entire globe). No King, no dictator and a machine to secure the anonymous vote and a system to hear the views. Law, order and understanding began to flow in earnest.

The mother of all democracies was not perfect for all, many rich people were upset at the forming of it.. prolly the right wingers. The notion is to get more of the people to understand the situation and to... VOTE. despite all this, democracy is still the worst form of government, except for all the others. What is important to remember is that the topics of slavery, trade, sexuality, science, philosopy etc.(humongous etc!) could be discussed and reach a stage where a debate would elighten and a VOTE could decide. WOW. Give it more credit because we take two bit, tin horn democracies for granted these days. Back then, it was the first...ever!

In my esteem the biggest step forward from this Athenian period was the Magna Carta followed by the American Constitution. Maybe thats why I loathe the defilers of American democracy so much. I find that democracy has always been attacked by the right wing types because they want to rule like queens or kings. That pathetic, inbred, trickle down crowd of wannabe blue bloods and barons that rob us all of safety, sustainability and truth. They just want to completely control what they know nothing of. It has been a constant struggle and, when the Bush era is finally over, we will see the incredible damage wrought upon a great nation, and the world, by the subversion that took place under the rabid blessing of a narrow crowd. Shameful.

If you think that ancient democracy sucked for everyone except the rich then you dont know much about the lives people lead before democracy. Athens was the New York of it's day. New York certainly suckedd for a lot of poor immigrants but.. they prospered under a system that, eventually, meted out freedom, justice, opportunity and fairness. The idea was the same as you have today, people can rise up to be VOTED into power! No, it wasnt perfect, no it didnt always happen, no it wasnt always truthful, no it wasnt always fair.. sound familiar? You, as an American, are as related to Ancient Greek Democracy as you are to ancient hominids. It's in your blood. Written into near perfection by your founding fathers and surviving thanks to the grace and honor of lovers of freedom everywhere and despite the attacks from the robbing barons and their brainwashed flocks!

I guess the rich oil shieks have nothing to do with it, or Bin Laden's rich family funding his exploits. Oh, that's right, Barak Obama is here to save us all from the tyranny of the white man. I always figured once the shoe was on the other foot this would happen. Am I still allowed to eat at the same places as everyone else or ones just designated for my kind? Good thing I don't take the bus.

BTW: Harper is a Western Canadian and so am I. I will not support a party with a leader from Ontario or Quebec. Those provinces constantly elect the likes of Cretien (the most embarassing leader EVER) and Martin. Joe Clark, John Turner and Kim Campbell, all Primeministers from Western Canada, ousted by the East. Now they want to do the same with Harper. Two Quebecois and one Ontarian banding together to start a coup against an Albertan. The coalition should be remanmed "support group for sore loosers." If the Liberals think they can force their way back in after what they did in the 90's, then they better be up for a fight.

lol the old west vs east mentality.... gotta love it, what will it ever achieve?.... nothing, just kicks more dirt into the air. The BS has to stop somewhere, just have to start playing hard ball in your negotiations with the rest of the provinces, no need for the rest of this crap.... you just need a premier with a back bone as Newfoundland has...
