Default 2008 Weapons ban draft...so it begins...

Seeing an opportunity to take advantage of a political majority the new attempt to disarm America begins again....
Have a look, this bill seems to want to include every type of firearm on the market.

Arghhh, my biggest worry!!! I hope those who rely on their arms to protect themselves(ourselves) from an overpowering govt. don't end up having to protect themselves (ourselves) from an overpowerng govt.!!

It looks like that bill was introduced in July, but it never made it out of committee. Am I missing something?

What's worse is that this Bill was sponsored by 4 republicans. Hopefully they lost their seats during the recent elections.

One has to do what one has to do. Better to just be informed along the way.

Magazines for autoloaders and primers for reloading are getting scarce in parts of the country. Stock up now on primers. They will be the hardest component to get and the easiest to 'tax' or restrict and the single consumeable component of reloading that is tough/nearly impossible to make.

My understanding is that it does not effect what you already own. If it goes into effect, it will apply for future purposes.

Can't help but to think that the Gun Shops are already getting their jollies off of this... My local's prices are already being marked up.

I got mine... You better get yours.
And I plan on getting more.

Rep. Mark Kirk [R-IL]
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen [R-FL]
Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ]
Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT]
Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE]

There is the list of the sponsor (Kirk) and all of the cosponsors.

It's interesting that it isn't cosponsored by any democrats...

You must be talking about the list of weapons at the end of your link:

"SEC. 6. APPENDIX A TO SECTION 922 OF TITLE 18.
  • Section 922 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following appendix:"

I don't want to spend the time looking into it but I'm guessing that all those weapons that you are worried about losing are actually the ones that are specifically excluded from this legislation. I fear that you, and all the other "blanks" are misreading H.R. 6257, which would fit right well with the usual paranoid hysteria that comes every time they propose to ban assault style weapons and high capacity magazines. Do you macho men really know what you are getting worked up about? Are you crying wolf yet again?
FYI,. I'm independent and I shoot, hunt, and vote. I'm not the least bit worried about some idiot losing his Uzi.

I'm not worried about that either. After this year's Second Ammendment ruling, I'm not concerned about our right to buy most guns being taken away.

But I am worried about some good varmint rifles being outlawed again, and I am worried about ammo becoming near-impossible to buy legally, and I am worried about our right to carry concealed weapons being stripped from those of us who try to live by the law.

I'm not worried about HR 6257. I don't get it - it seemed to be a rehashing of the previous "assault weapons" ban, but it didn't get any press and it didn't go anywhere in Congress. Maybe a few guys get together every year and re-introduce it just for kicks? Next year it'll probably be more substantial with no sunset provision, and it'll probably pass with no problem...

I love the gun debate in the USA. I lived there for over half a year and was surprised by all the different guns laws each state has. In Canada, the gun laws are federal, so it's the same across the entire country. Little know statistic is that there are more guns owned per person statistically in Canada than the USA. I understand rediculous/nonsensical gun legislation very well being a Canadian. Here an SKS, AR-15 or M-14 is considered restricted as are all handguns with barrels more than 4.1 inches. However, the FN-FAL, HK-31, AK-47 for example, are pohibited (prohibited firearms can only be purchased by those with a grandfathered prohibited licence, and once those people are all gone, so will all prohibited weapons). A Smith and Wesson model 32 with a 4 inch barrel is prohibited, but my Wather P99 with a 4.1 inch barrel is not. The S&W is bigger and the same caliber! I am actually a NRA member even though I'm Canadian (I like the American Rifleman magazine), and see then as a very strong lobby group. Your laws may get like those here in Canada, with the biggest impacts being bans on all fully automatic firearms, high capacity magazines (max 5 rounds here in Canada), and no carry or carry/conceal (which should be highly scrutinized anyway). People will try and encite panic, create a false gun economy based on the fear of looming gun legislation, justify price gouging. Sounds like the oil & gas industry. I would suggest carrying on as per normal. If a foreign hoard invades the USA, don't worry, we can arm over half of Canadians and come down to save you. Besides, what are neighbours for?

Wow, a reasonable post. Are you sure you belong here?
