Putting Obama's income redistribution into practice...
Received this today. Enjoy.
Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign the read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed--just imagine the coincidence.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.
If this guy could afford to tip $10, then he must have been "rich" in the first place. So, it would be even worse for him.
Obama would follow him down the street and hit him upside the head with a baseball bat. Then he'd take the rest of the money in his wallet. There's more than one non-working person that could use some of his money! Hopefully the waiter would get some, too. You know, to be fair.

Pretty funny and with McCain's/Bush's income redistribution plan, they'd grab the 10 from the homless guy(OK..not really out of his hand, but borrow it from china, his kid will pay it back) and hand it to the Wall street investment banker.
The Federal Govt has been re-distibuting "wealth" for years. That's why corporations get tax "incentives", Wall St. gets bailed out and the "blue" states tax dollars get sent to the "red" states. Here in the northeast we have been subsidizing the deep south for decades. You would think they'd at least drop a Thank You note in the mail.

Somehow, it's worse to be rich? The inane, silly proposal that a rich guy is worse off than a waiter or a bum. Is he rich or not? You must mean he wants to be rich or tries to be rich or thinks he's rich. Listen: The rich guy should pay more taxes... we already saw what happens when they dont. Reaganomics is a total failure. Trickle down is for stupid, greedy fools and invites socialism and communism. It takes a little foresight to clearly see this... what's that? You have none? Oh what a shock.

There's more than one non-working person that could use some of his money! Ya, maybe Wall St CEOs should get richer. Maybe go back to robber barons and blue bloods. Ya, lets just have filth everywhere, close schools, allow more infrastructure meltdown, allow services to decline more, lose competitiveness, lose law, fill the prisons, make war, ya, what silly, narrow views.
Hopefully the waiter would get some, too. You know, to be fair.
What you voted for was so fair after all. See how fair it is?
I don't have an issue with a progressive tax system, it is the rate with the progression that I oppose.
A national sales tax of perhaps 5%, with no income tax, would be regressive. But it would not be if every LEGAL adult got a rebate check each year for 5% of say $20k, in other words $1000. Low incomes would pay little to no tax, and higher incomes only pay on what they spend.
5% probably wouldn't enough to handle the spending we do now, but the government could tighten their belt just like all of us are doing too.

HELL YEAH!!!!!
I live in one of those blue states and I puke every time I send a check to Washington. I'm sick and tired of income redistribution to farmers, farm corporations, multi-millionaires on Wall Street, oil companies, and every other selfish corporation that has a Senator's hands in their pockets. 22% of the money that Californians send to Washington never makes it back to California - it goes to red states because they contain a bunch of people who never took education seriously. Alaska is one of them. Sarah Palin's state takes more of our money than any other state on a per capita basis (or are they third - memory ).
And while we're on the subject:
Obama wants to raise the top rate from 36% to 39% (39% is where it was under Clinton and at one time it was over 70% - get some perspective, people). That means the additional tax is only 3% and that is only on the amount over $250,000 (please correct me if I'm off on that). John and Sarah have been using scare tactics over and over saying: "Obama will raise taxes". Of course they don't tell us the details - because they know their audience is STUPID BEYOND BELIEF. They don't comprehend details, just generalities. And they have proven over and over that they will believe half-truths and even lies. Even that idiot, Joe the Plumber, doesn't get it. He's worried about his taxes even though he would get a rebate under Obama. He's also worried that he'll have to pay 3% more in taxes if he ever does buy his bosses business - which he won't, he doesn't even have a plumbers license. How can anyone take him seriously? How can anyone take McCain/Palin seriously?

I would convert to God if the U.S. would ditch it's tax system and go with something like you're proposing, or a consumption tax. The tax code is artificially complex just so accountants can take more of our money. We should pay at the register and that's it. Maybe we have a Constitutionally mandated ONE PAGE ONLY tax return that we file in order for poor people to recieve a rebate of something but whatever it is I want it simple, progressive, effective, and as low as possible for anyone who is in the working class. Why the hell do they tax work? Isn't that a disinsentive to work? Income taxes on a living wage makes no sense at all. In case anyone hasn't noticed, I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore.
(too lazy to add this to the above post)
Any moron who thinks rich people are going to leave this country just because their taxes are going up by 3 friggin' % is nuts. You're using scare tactics just like John and Sarah. Bright, entreprenuerial people would be clammoring to get into this country even if the top rate was over 50%. Any American who wants to leave this country just because they can't be a billionaire instead of just a millionaire is not worth keeping, IMO - let 'em leave.

Candidates depend on people being ignorant. Read and learn why our tax code is so damned complicated -- oh, and what people will REALLY be paying under both proposed tax changes:
This is not even taking into account all the new expenses being promised. For example, Obama's Carbon tax scheme (McCain's too, albeit far less expensive) will raise the price of energy for everyone. That's a regressive tax nobody seems to be talking about.

The liberal leader of Canada just suffered a defeat at the polls blamed mostly on his carbon tax plan. It gets complicated fast. Throw a few profiteers in with some ditsy, pseudo scientists, combined with lobbists and, poof...there you have a "registry" that costs everyone billions and does little, if anything else.

Flat tax may see a comeback...yet. Jerry Brown is probably drooling right about now.

Keep an eye on it because a carbon trade scheme is big on Obama's agenda. Even McCain is talking about a smaller one but both are fundamentally flawed and easily scammed.

And Steve Forbes. It's a pipe dream for now though.
In order for "Joe the plumber" to make and be taxed higher on 250000 he would probably have made more like 300000+ due to business tax incentives, and if that is not enough money to live comfortably in Ohio ask him to pass that joint over here!

Has anyone noticed how McCain/palin has dropped Joe Six Pack?
My guess is that they realize the economy is in the toilet so bad that Joe can't even afford a six pack, and Joe Forty Ounce Malt Liquor doesn't have the same ring.....
What does it take for a CEO to see he owes a debt for his mistakes? He is too busy inflating the golden parachute.
One of these politicians thinks its better to "spread the wealth" between people who very little and those who have 90% of it. The other guy wants CEOs and speculators to have it.
Personally, I'll take a less Mugabe approach to it and take a more social, cooperative arrangement. Considering the fabulous and catastrophic failure of Reaganomics, a little socialism may be just elixir needed to prevent a pervasive case of communism.
Aside from all that... How could anyone want four more years of Bush? Really. How could anyone want Sarah Palin close to the nuke button? With her ignorant husband as the first dude...lol. I have said it before. There is something wrong with you if you are proud to put such a malicious, ignorant, mean spirited hillbilly into your highest office. People willing to dig themselves a big hole just to lower the bar.
It's downright embarassing.
Remember Teddy Roosevelt was for higher taxes on the rich(Republican) and Ronald Reagan started the Earned Income Tax Credit EIC to give money to those who were below the poverty line when they filed their tax return!
