Global Warming

I'm curious. How many of you have bought into the idea than humans are the LEADING cause of global warming ? Do you even believe the Earth is warming ?

Lightbulb

Ooooh, oooh, sir, me, sir !! I believe it !!!

(But you knew I'd stick my hand up, didn't you....)

So does every other scientist, meteorologist and informed person that has progressed beyond the fact that the Earth is not flat, and dinosaurs weren't around when Humans climbed down from the trees...

One of the leading causes of global warming is cows farting. (no shit..) All that methane....

Car and motorcycle emissions are tste flies around the flatulant rumps of this bovine ecological disaster happening. All for Big Mac's double whopper "Planet Killer" with extra cheese...

First off, lets get everyone informed on what the truth of the propaganda is.

Now that the BS is out of the way, lets debate.

The jury is still out. Scientists are still very divided on this issue!

Yes they are, about 1 percent of scientists says it doesn't exist, not to mention it is the same expert scientists that say cigarettes don't cause cancer, somehow they are master lung specialists and global geologists as well.

Not to mention they are being heavily funded by oil companies and cigarette companies, and not to mention these 15 so called expert scientists demand equal media time as the opposition to make it seem like it is doubted by half the science community.

Not to mention we have oil lobbyists as our governments environmental specialists.

Since the people don't fully understand global warming, lets spin it like scientists don't know for sure either, people can relate to that, then once the seed of doubt is in place we can make it seem like it is just a far fetched theory not worth making changes over, then we will also say that these changes would be so costly the entire world will fall into financial chaos and destruction, most people take everything for face value and never question how or why.

Then we can make it a democrat/republican thing to further separate the groups, and viola, we keep America oil dependant until the last drop is gone.

Influence Europe and even Canada with the same spin tactics so they eat up the oil faster so we can cash out before the environment makes it extremely obvious something is going on.

The only way that someone could NOT think that there is a definate and accelerated climate change taking place, DIRECTLY related to Human influence on the surface of the planet, is if they had spent the last 50 years in a cave, deep underground, with no external sources of information, totally isolated from everything, and in an area which doesn't suffer earthquakes, although that now no longer exists (earthquakes have rocked areas where there is NO recorded or even ancestral memory of seismic events EVER happening...)....

Or someone with a gullibility level approaching 95%, and an IQ that ressembles a soccer match score, and the memory of a goldfish (10 seconds...)

Just in my little corner of the World, we're having the driest end of Fall EVER recorded, in around 3000 years of recorded History, and icebergs have been spotted off the New Zealand coast, in Summer, some up to a km long. The Polar caps have NEVER been so low in all our History, the ozone layer is peeling back like an onion, bushfires are ravaging Australia in one of the driest Springs ever, and the Global weather has approached levels of unpredictability NEVER before seen. Every single scientist and meteorologist who isn't in the pocket of the interest groups is adamant that we are approaching a crisis point. The devil is in the details, some disagree that the effects are as bad as have been predicted (these people usually own houses well away from the sea, not on fault-lines, away from volcanic geothermal bores and have a well-stocked larder...) and others argue that we must act NOW, regardless of the loss of profit for a tiny minority of fat rich meglomaniacs, who plan on being dead and gone after living in obscene luxury long before the swelling oceans engulf their filth-belching factories (hey, and they are not JUST Americans, for you guys who think that this is just another "anti-US" rant by Le Kiwi... )

It's a huge subject, but it won't wait around for the few idiots who still refuse to face reality. They need to think REALLY hard about their kids futures, and the future of every living thing on the surface of the Planet. Real fast.

Hey, Matthew,
just for fun, Google the Wikipedia entry for "Global Warming"
Its a good general article, with links to sceptics (and their oil company sponsors...) and also a concise look over the general ideas that make people with an IQ over 2 points think that just MAYBE something is going on in our Ecosystem that COULD be related to our meddling and pollution of the Planet.

There is a huge amount more data out there, but most of it from the scientific community, or from the extremes (both sides..). The Wikipedia article is a good start. Read it, then come back and say "Bullshit" to Cutter. Or me.

It would be irresponsible to mention biased anti-global warming scientists funded by Big Bad Oil without mentioning where the funding comes from for the scientists who are adamant about the Dangers of Global Warming. Lets not nit pick about who's being courted by what company or organization because both sides are guilty of being pursuaded. That argument is a waste of time!!

None of us have ALL the facts. None of us really understand ALL the inconsistencies in either argument for or against the existence of global warming. Scientific fact has always been a grey area in this particular issue, and that's not because truth is relative or any wierd existential reasoning, but because so much of what is "discovered" is skewed to pad one's research budget both for and against global warming.

Also, when the question of global warming comes up, few people realize that ideas like the Kyoto plan are quite detrimental to the development of young/developing countries. I find it alarming that an admittedly short sighted and ineffective plan could draw so much attention while ignoring the needs of developing countries.

In conclusion, I have always been a wait and see until its too late kind of person

Good topic though, lets keep it going.....

Interesting responses so far. I brought all of this up since I'm reading a cool new book. ''Unstoppable Global warming , every 1500 years''. It's written by a couple of atmospheric scientists. Have any of you read it ?

These are the master scientists and economists that wrote that book, and are supposedly disproving the other 99% of the worlds scientists out there.

Fred Singer worked for the Philip Morris Corporation saying cigarettes do not cause cancer.
He openly admitted to accepting money from Exxon to make theories saying that fossil fuels are safe for the the air and environment.
Both goes against most scientists findings.
But yeah, he seems like a great scientist to put the fate of the world on.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Singer

Not to mention the intial video I posted in this thread (to get everyone on the same page) did a interview with him, and exposed him from what he is.

Dennis Avery is a product of the same stature, fraudulent claims litter this guys past, he is like a used car salesmen of science, as in he would try and sell you anything if the price was right.
Not hard to see how he would be involved with a multi-billion dollar corporation interests.

Coming from someone who has never contributed to this thread except for a few insults...

I got 99% from the denial machine video I posted earlier, not that you look at any links anyways.

Here is what Wikipedia says about it.

However, there is also a small but vocal number of scientists in climate and climate-related fields that disagree with the consensus view.
