Dang. Coming up on the two-year mark, and this thing still isn't done. I'm going to have it done for Mid-Ohio 2005 though... I hope!

Here's the latest shot, which may not look that much different than the shot from a year ago, but this time the bottom end is back together. (There was only one case half in the previous picture...) Sounds trivial, I know, but shimming one of these things is a PITA... There are a lot of other little things done now too which don't show, like Dyna coils mounted, body work on gas tank done (not the one in this pic) etc...

Yeah, the guy hosting my site changed servers, and the new one is case sensitive with file names where the old one wasn't. Me being the lazy git I am never paid much attention to those things so all my old links have to be redone to make the pics show again...

They should still be on the site though.

EDIT: That should do it, they should show up now.

I didn't make my deadline of having it done for Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid Ohio last week, too many things came up. It is close though. I was there with my 907 (it was the one in the Ducati Museum display) but the 750 stayed home...

Painting is underway... this was taken under a florescent light so the color is off, and the headlight shell looks like a blob, but what the heck.

The color (House of Kolor Meteor Maroon) is a little lighter than I was hoping for, but it will work. The black is Auto Air under HOK clear. Auto Air is water based, neat stuff. I'm going to play around with it more on other projects since I'm not so excited about working with all the chemicals of typical paint. (You still need to spray conventional primer and clear coat though). The clear is about four hours old here so it obviously hasn't been polished yet.

I'm new to this painting stuff (I did take a class in it... 20 years ago!) so there are some "D'oh!" areas here and there, but I got lucky in that the only place I totally screwed up is hidden under some trim when the bike is assembled. Woo Hoo! I'd rather be lucky than good!

More pics as it develops...

Ah man... I lost my avatar with the new forum too! Grrr....

Anywhos, this bike is of course the work of "DesmoDog" who would be appearing on your screen right now if I could find the dang pic I was using... and could change my avatar!

Progress continues on the bike... pics to follow soon.

Dog -

Looking good - keep the photos coming! Take a look at this month's RoadRacerX, they have a great article about Cook Nilesen's "California HotRod" (except they refer to it as "Old Blue," a name I don't remember from the '70s).

Then read the articl abou the Isle of Man TT immediately following . . . .

Nevermind...

Anyway, yeah, I'll be updating my site in a big way when I get the bodywork painted/on the bike. That will be a huge step forward for me. Then I'll be able to finsh the wiring, hook up the brakes, dash, speedo, etc.

Once the cams are dialed in the engine will get put in the frame too. Then it will REALLY look like a bike again!

EDIT: I was bored tonight so I threw together another mock-up:

Is this a std colour for GT,went to an Italian bike show in Sydney, sorry no pics,
and the best paint was a GT with the same colour,it had a wet and deep look and was this crimsony red colour.

No, it isn't a standard color. In '74 they were typically a two-tone paint scheme. I have heard rumors that there were some solid maroon bikes produced, but I forget for which market now. I think the maroon Ducati used was darker than this though.

There is also a lot more metal flake in the paint than I was expecting. It's going to be interesting to see this thing in the sunlight for the first time. So far I've only been staring at it in my dimly lit basement shop... I may be in for a surprise!

Threw together another mock up today. The bike finally saw daylight. Looks good enough to me!

What? My wife may be reading this ya know!

Let's just say I could have saved a few bucks by buying an S2R last year instead. And when it's all said and done, a new 1000cc S2R may have been a cheaper option.

The emaculate crimsion GT at the bike show in Sydney that I saw a couple of weeks ago is owned by the local bevel guro,I think his name is Martin and he has
a shop that specalises in them.It was drop dead gorgeous.

Just spent a weekend working on getting the cams timed. These things aren't known for their stellar production tolerances... complicate that with the fact I'm using cams from an 860 instead of the 750 parts, and it was a bit of a headache. Just ordered some offset keys that should bring them within 2 degrees of each other - any closer than that would have required a major teardown to reindex the lower bevel gears... no thanks!

Here's how the bodwork sits now while I try to button up the engine. Tank isn't sitting at the right angle yet...

New badges are on order along with the cam keys

Looks a bit different than what I started with?

It's looking good. The round-case twins are magnificent-looking bikes.
