Anyone know what rims originally came on the Mach 1? Borrani 18"...? and the brakes, duati made or farmed out and added...Grimeca?

Thanks,

Chromed steel Radelli rims, 36 hole, 18" WM0 I think? Maybe WM1? Virtually everyone building specials these days goes with alloy WM2 rims, Excels are popular if you're not picky about a big ugly red logo on the side.

You can use the front and rear hubs from any narrow case 250, or 175 or larger actually. You probably want something later rather than earlier though, something that uses an integral speedo drive.

You might want to pick up a few reference books. Mick Walker's "Ducati Singles Restoration" and Ian Falloon's "Standrd Catalog of Ducati Motorcycles" are two of the typical books, but there are a bunch of them out there. And like I mentioned before, if you're going for accurate (an accurate fake?), be sure you bring your checkbook.

The books are on their way! thanks for your very specific and helpful information.

I think there will be a balance of Mach 1 and my own desiers as i continue to create this bike: haveing a clear idea of the original though will allow me to make conscious changes.

Thanks again,

Merlin

Aside from a bracket or two I don't think a Mach 1 frame is any different than a Monza Frame, or any other narrow case 250 frame. If I were building a special I wouldn't worry too much about which model bike the frame came from. I'm not sure how you'd positively identify a Mach 1 frame anyway??? The books you've already ordered will have more info. I'm out of town right now so I can't check anything I have.

If you do find a frame that has documentation to show it's from a Mach 1, you're going to pay a premium for it. Since you haven't got any other Mach 1 parts, why bother?

I really think your best bet is going to be to find a somewhat complete Monza and start with that... it will be easier/cheaper in the long run.
