Default Advice on vintage singles?

Somehow, I've gotten into the vintage racing scene. We have a Honda "formula" 160 phenomenon happening here in the Pacific Northwest, and it's opened my eyes to other vintage bikes. Since Ducatis are my first love, I thought it'd be cool to race a single in the vintage 250 class.

What would you guys recommend in a $3-4K budget range? Is that even enough for a race-ready bike? Thanks.

If you're interested in racing a 250 Ducati you should check out the Bevelheads list. Go to http://http://www.ducatimeccanica.com/ for more info on how to sign up for the list. There are a lot of guys there with experience racing these things.

I recently bought a 250 for $500, I'm sure it could be made into a race bike for under $4k, but it wouldn't be a top of the line bike.

I'd be more curious about building a 160 Ducati for the 160 Formula class myself...
