Default SV650S as a commuter?

I am on the market for a second-hand bike to replace my Transalp 600 as a commuter.
One of my choices would be an SV650S, as long as it doesn't require too much work to be fixed and it's not too expensive. Only mods would be a top box (if not already present) and heated grips: I am not very much into frills on a commuter.
I have knowledge of what to look for on a second-hand bike so I'd like to hear more in-depth about this bike: what fuel mileage should I expect, should I look for a fuel-injected bike or the old (and cheaper) carburettor model will be just as fine, any model-specific trouble I should look for etc.
Many thanks in advance!

As a commuter I thought mine was a little too small. I'm only 5'9" w 31" inseam and thought the seat to peg distance was too short for comfortable DD.

Great bikes though, I'd choose the naked in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the reply but I'll defer my decision again: right now I am simply too busy to go out and look for another motorcycle!

43mpg on the 2nd Gen (fuel injected) SV.

Parts are cheap and plentiful (just look at ebay). Insurance in also dirt cheap.

Throw a GSXR suspension on it (front and rear) and you'll really have something fun. The stock suspension is the bike's weak point in my opinion.

You'll never have a problem in traffic because of all the usable low end. Power is right there where it you need it. Change the gearing to 14/47 and you'll get even more. Throw an R6 throttle tube on it (8$ mod) and save your wrist from some pain.

I've probably done every known mod on this bike so if you need some info just shoot me a PM. The SV was my first bike (I still have it) and just bought an RC51 in the fall. I'm just waiting for it to get warm again. WINTER SUCKS!!

Hope that helps.
