Default 06 750 shock on 04 650

I reused my triple clicker 06 750 shock an put it on the o4 650. I had to cut the battery/tool box. I chopped that off leaving the 90* edges the battery rests on so that I would not need to relocate the battery. The problem with the 06 shock is its 20mm shorter that the OEM and will require a lower longer bolt and nut. Since this is the wifes bike I'll drop the front 20mm in the forks and see what the end result feels like. Since shes is 5'6" and could only tip toe at a stop this might help. However I don't yet know the impact on clearance of the Micron low mount when at a lean. I suspect since the front still sports the 60 series tire that she would run off that before dragging hard parts. I did find a set of dog bones to add 1 inch in the rear of the bike if I prefer this shock over the 05 thats been ordered. FYI the front has the emulators and springs.

Well thats all for now and I'll try and post more once the roads dry. So I finished up the project and asked for the wifes opinion on the new setup. I made the assumption she could tell the bike was lower but and more firm. She did have the slightest idea that it was different. Never mind the forks sticking up 3/4 of an inch. Oh well like I said it needs to be ridden anyway to really know what the results are.

Update: I rode the bike this morning and the bike surprised me by feeling stable and solid. The OEM felt loose so this was an improvement. I'll still try the 05 and see if it gives the same result without the reduced ride height.

Update #2: I installed the longer 04/05 gsxr shock and that required some more cutting of the battery box and relocating the ECU. In a nut shell that wasn't worth the effort since I liked the 06 750 shock more and could have regained the ride height by adding different dog bones. To late I told the wife this is the better one and walked away for the damn bike.

I forgot the basics. Swingarm angle is what I forgot to consider during this test. So I need to redo several steps and that should clear some of this false feed back.

Default Nice write up...

Evil,

Nice write up... I was wondering when you mention 04/05 shock that is longer.. were you talking about a GSXR 750 shock? vs. the 06? I was going to put a Ohlins GSXR 600 shock I found on my SV, but they are 10mm too short. For now I think I will put on a ELKA & be done with it.....

Default

The new 06/07 600 and 750 shocks are shorter than the 04/05 units. Even though I believe you could then use the aftermarket dog bone to regain the lenght/ride height. This would be easier than remaking the battery box.
