I've got an HP2 with the optional SM rims. I saw the new 650 motard at the show. Excellent bike. It matches up with a Husqvarna in terms of weight, obviously less vibration and there is still room to lose weight on it. Tuning options are there. They already have an Akrapovic on file direct from BMW. Probably not available yet but it is coming. The new 650's are so light, in line with the 625 SMC and Husaberg 650e but again they should be minus the considerable vibration.

The HP2 is an awesome bike, providing more smiles per mile than my 12GS, CBR600RR, ZX10R, or RC51 ever did. Wet weight on the HP2 is 433, the Megamoto will be a little bit more. Attribute that to the dual front disc setup, larger rear wheel 180 v HP2's 150 (a better tire combination of 120/180 although the 120/150 ratio on my HP2 is fine for track days and street riding), front fairing, and Ohlins shock. The air shock weighs 2 kg less than a conventional shock. The HP2 is off-road focused so there is a compromise when I run the SM rims but it's still fun just the same. But the new model MM is definitely road focused and allows for more than just city riding on a SM bike.

Given the choice today it would be tough, twice the money but also twice the performance, useability and exclusivity. My HP2 is a keeper. I certainly couldn't say that for many of my past sportbikes.

I think this is a beautiful bike and I would love to have one, but I question your statement about weight and vibration vs. Husqvarna (I presume you mean SM610). My 610 vibrates WAY less than my previous KTM lc4, which I had to get rid of because I couldn't stand the vibration. Otherwise it was great.

I realize vibration is somewhat subjective, but weight is not. Until someone actually weighs a BWM, I won't believe it's as light as a 610. Whatever it weighs, I want one. Not because I'm dissatisfied with my 610, though.

I agree until it is weighed the jury is out but take a good look at them in the flesh and there's nothing in it. The BMW has a better seat but that's about it. The weight savings from the old 650 is significant and easy to see. Will it be as light as the 610? Maybe not but it's right there and with a few mods it won't be far off. True SM bikes afterall are really are hard to add weight to.

The vibration though, definitely will favour the BMW.

The HP2 looks to be a hoot, but for the price of one you can get a high end sportbike and a supermoto bike.

The new Motorcyclist has a comparison with the HP2 and the KTM 950 Super Enduro.

I honestly do not see the point of either bike. A real dirt bike would leave them for dead in anything tighter than fire roads, while a more street oriented bike would be far better on pavement.

The KTM 950 Supermoto is an awesome bike, if a bit pricey. But it seems to be bargain comapred to the BMW twins.

There is like an 70 pound difference in weight between an 05-06 SMC and a Husa...and I never noticed my Husa vibe excessively either.

...but neither could do BOTH. And the I would be willing to bet the 950SE is a better "street bike" than most "conventional" ones, unless you really MUST be crouched up or if you like to cruise at over 100mph. That thing would be a LOT of fun on the street! I wonder what it's like to jump one of those behemoths?
