I've identified the main jet- (high speed jet per manual- oem172) and the low speed jet to the left (oem 50), but there is yet another jet on the opposite end from the high speed jet... is that the metering pin? It's slotted for screw driver but I'm not sure how you can identify 5th position-- does that pin "click" or something to indicate positions? I've not yet taken it out.. I see no coller up there.
There is another access plate that is held by 3 screws. Should I be in that area for the metering pin?
I read the first impressions thread, and many other theads, not only here but on other forums, but did not locate any info pertaining to where the metering pin is located on the carb. I've in stalled the 180 and 50 jet. I did remove acceleralor pump plate and realized there were no jets in there.
Even on HuskyTalk (How to identify your jets) there was no info where to find the metering pin.
Could you please give me a hint on where I might find the metering pin on the carb? I need to complete this project. The gas fumes are giving me a headache!
I think #23 is the metering pin as it corespondes to Keihin's part number but in no way does it look like the metering pin listed on Kehin's PDF files for re-jetting.
If anyone could identify the metering pin, and collar I'd certainly appreciate it.
The needle is reached from the top of the carb. That 3rd jet you are talking about is one of the other jets(forget the names) and they stay as is.
If you look at the top of the carb, there is a cover with 3 bolts holding it on. The needle is unuder there. You remove the cover, and you will see the slide. There should be a M5 nut in the center with some purple marker on it from the factory. You remove that nut and under it resides the needle. Take some needle nose plyers to grab the needle and lift it out slowy. Once you have the needle out, you will see a little circlip that should be on the 4th slot from the top. When you are taking that circlip off, be somewhere on a table or something so when you pop it off, you won't loose it. Move it to the 5th position from the top and re-install the needle, then the capture screw and then the cover. Tighten the needle capture screw back to the place it was stock where the color marks line up. Don't over tighten any bolts on the carb. If when you tighten them down and you here a click STOP, don't tighten any more.

Yes #23 is the needle and #24 is the clip you adjust to position 5 from the stock position 4.

Where might I find "A" or 19 to get to #23? On the illustration the #19 is not shown where it belongs on the carb. Is this an internal part or hanging off the side somewhere? For the life of me I can't seem to locate this part.

#19 is the slide, internal to the carb and is under that top cover on the carb with the 3 bolts. When you remove that cover (#5) you will see #25 set screw or capture screw as I call it. When you remove 25, then you see the needle and can pull it out.

OK got it.... but #5 position from the "top" means 5th slot from pointy end---right? Richer means move the pin away from point Right? At position #4 the circlip is in the middle --there are 8 slots.

From the top mean the dull end where the slots start, not the pointy end. So the 5th slot from the top of the needle. Moving the clip down from the top richens as it "lifts" the needle higher in the slide. Lowering the clip drops the needle in the slide and leans it out some.
By moving it to position 5, you will be richening the mix along with te 180 main jet you installed. But, you are going to a 45 Pilot form the the stock 50 which was really too rich.
Jet size,
larger means richer, smaller leaner
Needle
raising the needle (by lowering the clip) riches the mix, reverse leans

Well I counted down from the pointed end and placed cerclip at 5 down from pointed end which LOWERED the pin making it LEANER. But you say goinig to 50 from 45 richened too much so should I leave it a #3 or move it back to 4, where it was or go to 5 from flat end?
Jeesh-- Hope it will start when this is all over.... I read where most go from 45 to 50 and JD I think recommends it.
Count down from the the top of the needle, not the pointy end!!!!!!!
Look.
Put in your 180 main jet. Put in your 45 Pilot, put the clip 5th position form the top of the needle not the pointy end and adjust your fuel screw to about 1.5 turns out and you are done!

actually I had already taken the 50 out and put the 45 in --got lost in all the confusion! HA. Thanks again! I'll let you know how it turns out. Waiting now for Leo V. can.
I put the gas tank back on and fired it up--I didn't have the muffler on it yet....I couldn't resist---I took it around the block.... Wow! I will report more about the performance later.
Thanks for all your help with the jetting questions....
But now something else is up.....
GAS LEAK
Fuel is weeping out of puddied area where the wires are on the fuel selector on/off switch.
Can anyone recommend any material to fix the problem? (I'm surprised Husky would use puddy to keep the tank from leaking.)
There have been some of the fuel petcocks that have leaked. Mine hasn't.
DO a search on leaking petcock and you should find some info. There was someone who substituted a KTM petcock and had the part number. I'd take it to the dealer and make him fix it.
Did it run good with the jetting changes you made?

I'm still having a bit of surging at constant throttle at higher RPM...180 main, jd red 5th clip, 45 pilot 1.5 turns, tps off...was up the hills today and seemed a bit worse, higher up but cooler, which I thought would have more or less cancelled out the effects of each other...

I'll check the web but I'll probably use JB weld on it. My ony worried now is the gasket that hold the fuel selector will fail.
With the fuel leak and no muffler yet I've not been out to really try it. But I drove around the neighborhood and so far I'm impressed.
