Default Do you need to remove carb to rejet?-SM610

RE: Husky sm610

Do you need to take the carb off to rejet? Also, does anyone have any pics of what holes need plugged once the emission is removed.

Thanks

You have to remove the tank and remove the airbox. You can loosen the carb and spin it to get the bowl off to change out the jets.

It is no big deal to pull the carb off anyway and it makes it much easier.

basically the main jet is in the center of the emulsion tube. The Pilot is off to the side of that. The leak jet is in the bowl itself.

Look around on Thumpertalk, Supermoto Junkie and there are some threads with pictures.

Taking the carb off makes it easier, especially the first time you swap jets. Remove the seat, fuel tank, rear brake reservoir, and airbox. Drain the float bowl by loosening the screw on the lower left side of the float bowl. Loosen the clamp on the manifold and pop the carb off. Remove the plug at the bottom of the carb, it has a 17mm head. You can get to the main jet and pilot jet through the access hole. You do not need to remove the float bowl unless you want to swap out the leak ket. The main jet is in the middle with a 6mm hex head. The pilot jet is right next to it. Be careful removing the pilot jet. Make sure you use a good screwdriver.

You will need to plug the nipple on the right side of the head in front of the carb manifold if you remove your emissions stuff. You can use an automotive type vacuum plug. Reroute your carb vent lines and fuel tank vent and you should be good to go. There are some pics over at www.huskytalk.com in the tech section.

Thanks a lot. I'm having fun now!
Tank is off and all the emissions hoses. I bought 180 and 45 jets. May leave the main jet oem till I see what will happen. Have Leo Vince can on the way and just put in new Iridium spark plug--- all learned here. Thanks guys. I'm really itching to see how this will roar!

BTW- I used a check valve for the fuel vent from White Bros. It's only 2 inches long--vent and line, and has gold annodized cap.

The OEM Main is lean. 172 I think. Go ahead and pop the 180 in while you have it apart. Needle at the 5th position from the top. Adjust the fuel screw to about 1.5 to 2 turns out and you should be good to go. It will pop alittle on decel, that's normal.

What do you guys do with the crankcase tube? There is a tube from crank to frame then there is a 3/4 in dia tube that connects to frame and airbox. I presume it vents crank fumes into the carb. (Amazing they use frame as a chamber) This tube is a foot long. Can you take this off too or should I leave it in?

Thanks

You need the crank case vent. If you don't want to have it go to the airbox, then run it to a smaller K&N crank case filter and zip tie it up somewhere so it is captured. Make sure you seal of the hole in the airbox if you do remove it. I've decided to stick with my stock air box so I am leaving mine where it is.

I did remove the carb but did not remove the throttle cables--just turned the carb sideways to get at jets. I didn't want to get into any problems with throttle cable adjustments had they been removed.

rubber plugs I got from Ace Hardware. They look like rubber corks. Home Depot (similar stores) have them also. Usually in the cabinets where the SS hardware is. I just trimmed to size and put some sealing RTV on the edges and push it in flush. Done.........
