stopped here at my buddies place.
with the 70 degree temps the 6th postion on the clip makes it run like crap pretty much everywhere now that I am at altitude. 5th position up here back in june was alright
gonna try and unplug the TPS and see if that makes iot better up here for today
guess I will buy some diff pilots and see what works best
when I yanked the smog junk intially I went pretty much by the book using the thumpertalk guidelines of 180 main erd needle and whatnot and the w/the JD pilot it ran like crap.....maybe I was off on the fuels screw ? guess I will go back to that point, riode around town with no plastiuc and keep fiddlin with it unitl right
Another factor to consider if your bike is running poorly is fuel quality. I recently got a tankful of bad gas. It had some water in it and made my bike run like sh*t. Throttle response was poor and power was down. I drained the float bowl and the tank. The fuel initially came out clear but after a short period of time it became cloudy with globs of water visible. So, if you're bike is running crappy, check your fuel. Drain the float bowl and see what comes out.

For those of you who have the 4500 rpm stutter (which I also had) I offer the following advice.
The stutter in my bike was caused by 2 factors:
1) stock plug (protruding electrode) and
2) overly rich pilot jetting stock 50 (note I’m in Australia and a Barret was thrown on my bike before purchase with no jetting changes)
I found that you have to have the CR8EIX iridium plug and the right pilot circuit setup mine is a 42 pilot with ~1.5 turns out on the mixture screw. If you throw in the CR8EIX and your pilot setup is too rich, it will fowl up and cause the stuttering. I realised this after initially installing the CR8EIX and having to head out on a long rid through traffic where the stuttering began to get worse, almost to the point where the bike was un-rideable (this was with the 50 pilot).
At first I did try unplugging the TPS and found a bit of improvement but once the pilot circuit was sorted, and the CR8EIX installed I could run it with the TPS plugged in.
I hope this helps
Cheers

I went to a 45. Didn't think of going as low as 42. Will have to try it.
Anyone try installing the leak jet that came with the JD kit? The FCR comes stock with the leak jet plugged. I installed it last night so it's too early to tell. It ran awesome this morning on the way to work, but the weather was cool. The test will be tonight when it's back up to the usual 90 degrees.
I installed the leak jet that came with the JD kit. Couldn't notice much of a diff. I also tried the 42 pilot, but went back to the 45. Seems to run better on the 45 than the 42 for me. I am happy where I am now. Starts easy, runs good, pulls hard, minimal popping. Now just waiting for my seat to come back from Renazco!

I think the leak jet helped. In the hot weather it was loading up when I gave it gas off a closed throttle and is seems to have fixed that. These FCR carbs are definitely finicky though. Seems that everyone's experience is slightly different.
Another update here: Switched back to the standard (position 5) clip position on the needle. Definitely better for the hot weather. Lose a little top end but when it's 90 degrees out I need to be able to drive it in town. I will probably go back to tghe richer setting in the fall.
I removed mine. Dremeled it around the edges. Some guys were worried about if it did back fire and catching the filter on fire. No issues on mine to date.

the reason i ask about the backfire screen is that on my crf the first time my filter caught on fire, not good
no one makes a fire proof one for the husky like they do for the crf
mike
Just make sure that if you clean the element with gasoline wash good with soap and water after. And oil with Bel Ray filter oil or some other filter oil and not motor oil. It shouldn't light up then.
Careful when you cut out the screen - like Bill said use a dremel or something to clean up the edges. You don't want to leave anything. You don't want little pieces of wire getting sucked into the cylinder.
little poppin o decel, so will try 1.5 turns out on the fuel screw and see if that clears it up
unplugged the TPS and no surging, but I only rode it for like 5 minutes as to not piss off the neighbors too much, so I'll get a real feel for it when she's in normal running mode and all warmed up
180 main
42 pilot (they say good for above 65 deg)
red needle, 5th position
2.0 turns out
tps unplugged
