Way back when these first came out Aussie Robbie Phillis built a race bike from one of these with basically a hotted up GSX1135 stuffed in there, this was before the first GSXR750's were available. THe thing was a rocket!

Back then the domestic market Japanese models had more technology than anything else that was exported. other tricky little bikes was FZ400R(before they release the FZR series) CBR400F3 and GPZ400R....

I'd have to disagree on that Giannis.
I've had 2 CBR400RR. The 125 2 stroke isn't comparable. Maybe a well sorted 250. (RGV, RS, NSR, TZR)
Plus when you ride the 400RR's you have to basicly ride'em like they're 2 stokers. Which will be easier for most.
89'

I think this was a 92'

I think even the 84' GSX-R was a bit stronger than a 125.

im talking about this GSX400R the CBR you posted is a 88-89 tri-arm... and a 90s gullarm... i aware of their power, i used to have a NSR250SE proarm.

the GSXR above can hardly go over 175k/hr when a Mito125 can go 180 easily and in shorter time.

How much power is a stock 125? 15-20hp?
Pretty sure even in 84' the 400cc bike were at 40hp.
Top end could be only a difference in gearing.
I weight 205lbs. and I would get around the 125's like they were mopeds.

a new 125 could hit 30hp...restricted ones for 18yold riders in Europe have 15hp..

the GSXR above probably has 35hp but weights as much as a 750

ps: a friend had this one below and didn't have a change against my NSR both stock!

Come on. YZ125s were making 20 hp at the rear wheel in 1975.
I think 125 street bikes like the Mito or Aprilia make hp in the 30s. And they weigh probably 100 pounds less than a 20 year old GSXR400.

You had a NSR125?
If you say so then I believe you. I've never seen a 125 anything come close to the old 400cc's. Even my friends old CB-1 would run from the NSR/RS125's around here. They look pretty trick but they don't speak english and my Japanese is terrible.
Even the guys on the 250 two stokes would have to have the coordination of a professional drummer to keep up in the mountains. And, that's when my friend Okuma who rides a stock RVF400R leads.
When I frist came to Japan in 96' there were two smokes everywhere. They were the first to go. Now a days you hardly see 400rr, I guess they're next on the endangered species list.
Still the old GSX-R was fun. I sold my ZX-7R (JDM ZXR750) to a guy who had one. It was a fun bike, and that's its main purpose.

Maybe the mini track? But, no way a full size track. Not in my experiance.
125 two-stroke versus 400RR, equal riders, basic mods. I'm putting my money on the 4 stroke.
I've ridden the late model NSR. Lots of fun, but I prefer the 400's.
Maybe that's due to my size and lack of skill to exploit its strengths.

You missing the point..

i said the GSXR that was for sale and which it was a 1984 model doesn't have a change against the modern 125s (Mito,RS125,NSR125,TZR125) I didn't say the 125s can beat 400s from the late 80s and 90s... anywere and any time.(GSXR400RR,FZR400,ZXR400,CBR400R and RR)

On the last example i think was more of a rider experience than bike power. The race track wasn't a GP level one but wasn't a mini track neither.. it had a quarter mile straight and it was very tight... 125s and 250s had the best lap times just because they could carry more speed on the corners.

On a open track the 125s would get beaten by the 400cc except if the 125s listen to names like "Honda RS125" "Yamaha TZ125" and so on... then the 400 wouldn't be ahead, nowhere, never!

FWIW, After putting on the Tyga full system, doing the normal mods and jetting the bike my NC30 (VFR400R) put out a whopping 56 hp on a Dynojet 250 dyno.

No, I understand your point, and its a valid point.
I'm just saying I've never seen it happen.
Also speaking from my personal experiance.
Which doesn't mean beans.

FFS, read what your posting guys, that old GSXR400 was one of the first 400 sport bikes on the market, in its day it couldnt even run with the old RZ350's. What the hell are you going on about these modern 400's for? Thats like agreeing that a modern ZXR636 can give a GSXR750 a run for its money so a old GPz550 should be able to as well A 125 mito or Aprilia RS25 would smoke one of those old GSXR400's no question at all, and thats what we were talking about.
