think i remember reading something about it once. If i recall, a device to divert air away from the brake lever, at speed, the wind could be causing the brake to apply. I could be way off though
Prevents accidental activation of brake lever during close racing.
Correct! There have been numerous cases of front brake levers being jammed on when people are banging bars during close racing - with nasty crashes resulting...
Besides Rizoma, there are versions made by Woodcraft, GP Tech, Performance Cycle Works and others.
They have been out for well over a year now and I see people with them at local track days/club racing. I have them but I've yet to install them.
MotoGP requires them on the throttle side only, but all the companies also make them for the clutch side.
Supposedly they do indeed work, however, I can also see where they might actually INCREASE the chances of bars getting locked together so I'm still not 100% convinced as to their effectiveness.
If you were paying attention even the AMA requires the brake lever protector too, thx to the Daytona Josh Herrin incident last year. I don't know if WSBK requires it, but I've seen some with it, but I thought the Duc's didn't have them, but could've just been hard to see on tv..

I think Zarco's little incident with Terol in Catalunya last year did it for GP. When watching the video, not only does he seemingly purposefully squeeze Terol off track but he hits Terol's brake lever as well.

The oval hole in the lever prevents the wind from apply the brake.
The other end of this piece should connect to the bar ends as well otherwise it could get inter locked with another bike, ie: I've added black lines to continue the piece, trying to explain what I am saying.
