Surprised it lasted this long. Grassroots efforts with no real money involved. You have to really love the sport to be in it that long and get nothing out of it for all your time and effort. Sucks for the members but maybe someone "on the grid" will take it over and sink their money into it.

And now with the national news saying gas is going to be $5.00+ by May, it's only going to kill more great organizations like this! Can we say recession #2 in less then 3 years!

wow! very surprised.
This might've been a "grassroots" effort but they always had a PACKED membership. I was on and off for a good decade with them and i have countless friends that are (where?) still running with it.

I'm sure it was a great bunch of people all around. But nowadays, everyone wants cheap memberships, cheap entry fees, cheap parts, cheap tires, cheap everything and then big purses. I would probably vomit if I knew what it cost to sanction a race and he probably just said "let someone else deal with it".

Sad news indeed. Sign of the times. Whenever we are in a depression only those cash rich will survive. I look at the dealerships I know and the only ones to survive and thrive right now are the ones with huge cash reserves and who own everything in their stores. IOW they owe creditors zero and don't have to bend over when negotiating terms.

It wasn't a big surprise for those of us that race there but was still a little shocking when it happened. It has a lot of history as a track and a race club and we'll miss racing there. Grids have been down for a number of reasons the last couple years and nowhere near where they were in the heyday of the late 80's and 90's. The owner has rubbed a lot of racers the wrong way making decisions without much discussion or consensus that weren't always in the best interest of the racers. This caused a group of racers to start their own series out at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway - the CVMA which saw a lot of entry fees go over there further diluting the grids at wsmc. Most people simply couldn't afford to race a 6 race series with cvma and 10 months at wsmc so something had to give. Perhaps someone will step up if the shitty economy ever improves and have another go at it. I know WERA is trying to get a round there maybe even this season. It's a great place and wsmc were good people, it's a shame it came to this.

Yeah, I was racing at Willow Springs when they threw the ARRA & Earl Smith out of there. There was a lot of talk about stolen mailing lists and other underhandedness, but hell... I was never on the inside, so who knows what was true and what wasn't. In any case, its a shame to see this club fall.
