Your second thought shows you probably haven't owned a something like the KTM. I've never owned any motorcycle made in Germany, the USA, England, or Italy. Does that cover it? I actually don't know (or care) where the KTM is from.

Like you, I haven't brought a motorcycle into a dealership for a long time, at least fifteen years.
Almost non-existent, in terms of modern road motorcycles. Offroad, is still fervent though.

I agree, fair observation on the KTM (lack of ownership) but I do have a Husqvarna and while I don't think she is as bad as the KTM let's just say I don't call her my Italian Princess for nothing.

As much as I am a huge fan of KTM products, I am an off road nut after all, knowing what I know of KTM today I wouldn't buy one as my only bike. Besides given their low used pricing / low resale value and questionable reliability / dealer network I know I will be buying a KTM 950 ADV GO! or possibly 950 SM within the year; 3rd bike.

Most of the guys I ride with are on KTM and while I haven't owned one I'm intimate with the KTM maintenance and ownership experience having helped my bud with his. When I compare my cost of ownership / downtime to his over the last 2-3 seasons, it's no contest. I've done routine maintenance compared to major work he has had done. His bike has had to be in the shop repeatedly.

KTM is Austrian. Most consider KTM the Porsche of bikes to Ducati's - Ferrari and MV Agusta's - Lambo.

The support network is fairly large. I just wish the Japanese made bikes that sexy and cool.
