Gardner probably has the ability to gather more real information than the rest of us, but that doesn't mean he actually knows things we don't. I doubt Honda consults with him on new products, this is probably just rumor.

Two years ago I inquired through my contacts about the possibility of Honda building either a super exotica like the old NR750 or a "homologation special" like the old RC30 and they replied "This is a market segment we have no interest in because of too small margins and sales figures". Please note this is exactly the same answer they gave in 2005 and again in 2008 when European dealers asked why in Hell they weren't building a big trailie to take on the BMW R1200GS (which sold in small numbers and made BMW no money at all ).

funny how he glazes over the fact and makes excuses that the 600s are slower than the 250s were, after admitting that Jorge is supersmoothfast, because the big bikes are set up to ride like a 250, WTF?,,,

To the dreamers out there , the Honda of today is not going to build anything "exotic" or even daring/original b/c of sales margins (as noted above . ) Oh they may , perhaps offer us a $15,000 V4 1000cc superbike which has to be modified with $100K worth of parts to be competitive in the Championship ; like in the past the showroom bike will be porky and underpowered . I bet the next sbk will be another I4 , which is a good idea .

Quote Wayne Gardner:
"Expect your CBR Fire Blade to turn into a V4 very soon"

OK Wayne but I've been expecting a 1000cc V4 version of the RVF750 since
98... because on the show room floor... like pass race bred V4s from HRC... it
was be narrow as arrow and light as a feather with big bang spread of power we
all know and love...

Aside from the facts that they couldn't sell them unless discounted $3k and they drink oil?

Default here's the incentive for Honda?

The economics of a V$ being produced by Honda while the CBR1000RR has been doing well in international racing for relatively pennies on the dollar doesn't make sense - BSB, WSC, Endurance and IOMTT titles over the 3 gens of CBR1RR. Given the current economy and the fact Honda doesn't run a WSB team and Ducati have left WSC for MGP what is the incentive for Honda? The Aprilia hasn't sold very well at all considering the investment and Honda has never had a sales success with a race bred exotic V$ and eve then the Aprilia is just a bit better than the Honda until you bring money, dealer backup and reliability into the game - then the CBR walks all over it. With no factory Honda WSC team and no Ducati I'm not seeing the incentive for Honda to build a V$ superbike?

+1

It is a badass bike! BTW, mine doesn't use a drop of oil and it gets it's ass abused on the track.

Mr.Honda would build you a new V4 superbike and the only incentive he would
need is that it sports more advantages than a I4...

A VTEC VFR800 with a hundred pounds lopped off would be something that would interest me. Seems though they're more interested in putting highly questionable "styling" around that engine than doing anything useful with it.
