I have looked for an electronic version of the service manual somewhere on the internet but have been unable to find it. I think some time ago I got the parts manual off the Ducati site, but it will not load in now.

The thing is with the service manual for any Ducati there are 40 special tools used to service them. In reality you only need maybe 10 of those for typical maintenance.

If anyone has a link to the D16 service manual it would be appreciated.

None of my Ducatis have ever seen the inside of a Ducati shop, and I only own some basic Ducati specific (996 series) tools...including crank rotator, belt tensioner locknet tool and some simple home made tools for things like valve rocker pin extraction, etc. Maybe $100 worth of Ducati tools for comprehensive servicing, other than spare inventory parts like valve shim kits to make the valve adjusts easier/quicker without having to order specific shims.

The D16 head looks very similar to the other Ducatis in terms of maintenance requirements (other than double the number of rockers/valves).

I'm also curious what additional service/maintenance items there are for the D16. One of the main cost items on the twins is eliminated (cam belts), so that helps!

True... very similar but funny how the V4 is thought of as too complex with 4 cams
and double cam drives but not the V2 with its complex 4 cams and double cam drives...

4 cams double can drive V2...

Neagtive Barry... offset crank pins are screamers whereas 360º crank pins are big bang droners...

Click: off ignore

Because it's not a ponderous and complicated V4

Click: back on ignore

thanks for sharing the pic of a REAL Big Bang engine, not those pesky little bang varieties that some would have us believe are the real McCoy...

Someone posted that a 15,000 mile service ran almost 8,000 or something to that affect on one of the ducati forums, and this was just a routine service. If anything blows up you might as well buy another one, if I remember correctly a new motor is over $30,000.
I saw that post but I think there were some unusual/non routine aspects to that service visit.

In a way, assuming things are routine, one has four years until they cough up some money for a scheduled service. I mean, I just had the 24 month service completed. A year from now, the 36 month service will be billed to Ducati. Two years from now, or at 48 months, I will foot my first bill. The 48 month service is the same as the service I had today (Very involved). Ducati was billed $375. I can live with a $375 bill two years from now. A year later at 60 months the service visit is less involved than the 24 (today's) or 48 month service. I will be able to handle it .

Of course, if things break or prove unreliable after next year's 36 month anniversary, then I might have to dig deep, but regular service? No sweat. FWIW, the bike has been utterly reliable the past 24 months, and I ride the thing hard.

FWIW I still think the D16RR is great value. The comparably car is the Enzo or F1. Nothing else imo is close to an F1 car of the time and the D16RR fits there as well. The Enzo new was $1M. The F1 similar. The D16RR below 6 figures is amazing.

The justification is always the hard part when you've got a new superbike making more bhp than the 85K bike. But if you are only looking at bhp you're missing the point of the bike and MGP.
