they bolt right up....pretty much every honda sportbike made in the past 20 years uses the same steering head bearings, so the front ends interchange. A buddy of mine put 1000RR forks on his 95 VFR without any mods needed (altho the fatter upper fork legs restrict steering lock some.)

What Tony said.....I got a complete '07 front end and installed it without a single hitch or problem....was totally astounded. Then I loaned my front end to a racer friend of mine so we took it apart and he put it on his bike....then went to Roebling Road and crashed.....so he got me the '08 as a replacement.

I thought about the 1000RR forks but decided that they were too stiff....just a matter or personal preference.

Believe me....that is high on my list of priorities.....going to take a big handful of them to my powdercoater and have him paint them in matte black.....they do NOT need to stand out like they do. They are not rivets but 6mm button head cap screws but you got the point right.

How much weight can reasonably be taken off a '94-97 VFR with bodywork changes like this?

I am well aware of this site and it is a good source for what she sells...very reasonable. In fact, I am also a factory-authorized direct distributor for the Ariete valve stems and other similar items but will respect the integrity of this site by saying nothing more.

On my bike, I can not use the Dzu's fasteners and clips as the screws all go into threaded pieces of bodywork.....see what a mess the right side looks without that panel?

The forward screw goes into that hole in the tank.....I took a piece of aluminum bar and drilled and tapped it and it goes behind the tank hole....as I can not get to it when putting it on, I made the bar long enough that it can not spin as it hits the back side of the tank putting it on and taking it off...when off, the bar merely drops to the floor. The top screw is actually deceiving in a way as it is a bar that slips up behind the tank flange making it a clip in a way....it holds the panel tight to the tank without having to drill a hole in the tank.

I do appreciate your input....thanks.

thanks for the info fellers. and as far as the stripping weight question, a lot can be removed. In the process of track prepping mine and it's in the 390lb range at the moment. the subframe alone is massive and worth a quite a bit in reduction.

You know the thing is about those bikes ('94-97 VFR) is that they really have everything that I look for in a bike these days if I were to ride frequently on my 120-mile round-trip commute:
-Smooth engine configuration: check
-Unique looks: check
-Comfortable two-up: check
-Reliable: check
-Can get hard bags: check
-Dirt cheap: check.

A quick scan of Craigslist shows them at $2500-4000. Where can you get more for that money? Maybe the '98-01 VFR800, that doesn't look quite as good to my eye. A CBR1100XX is certainly faster but more expensive to own and $4k is the bottom end of their prices. Nothing else Japanese besides Honda really appeals to me for a sport-touring bike, and while something like a Ducati ST2 is an alternative would certainly cost more to maintain. Maybe a 955 Daytona, but been there done that for the Triumph.

So I ask myself, why haven't I bought one already?

damn good question. they are hands down the best all around bike ever. they do everything well, but nothing great. never realy left me looking for anything more, and are very capable in the right hands. there used to be a realy cool vid of the pridmores hot lapping and talking you through a lap at road atlanta on on Reg's vfr750. can't find it but this one isn't bad.
