Default Vanson Race Suits

Was wondering if anyone has experienced good or bad with Vanson race suits. Specifically the Volante. (double zippered front model)...do you think its kinda pricey compared to other suits of equal or better quality.

I am in dire need for a new suit and my weird shape has really limited me in buying off the rack. I am a 46 but I am only 5'8" so the pucks on a off the rack 46 are at my ankles. I may be able to squeeze into a 44 but its hopeful.

I noticed Vanson has custom made suits and I would like the double zipper in the front as I am a bit claustrophobic. With a single zippered suit about mid day when it gets wet....I go almost batty in the trailer trying to get the suit....yeah...its not a pretty sight.

any opinions would be appreciated....

Here's one I have for sale, cheap. It's based on a 44-46 size, but I'm 6ft tall and 200lbs, so I doubt it would fit you. It's custom made for me and costs about $1800 (all the bells and whistles)...I've crashed a couple times in it and it held up great (repaired by Vanson once). Vanson uses ultra thick, specially dyed leather, strong Kevlar thread, floating CE approved armour, etc!! I've used their stuff for years (I'm 20 mins from the factory).
Easy to deal with, if somewhat laidback sales dept. (some might say--too mcuh so..) anyway I highly recommend their gear
Let me know if you know someone who needs a used suit (there's a lot of lettering to pull off though)!!

Simply put, Vanson makes the best racing suits on the planet. I could go into several paragraphs describing their build quality and construction, but my opening sentence says all you need to know.

Go with a Vanson (if you can afford it), and you will NOT be sorry!

Vanson makes superb leathers.

Rugged, extremely well made, great protection, etc. I retired my set several years ago and have missed them ever since. Had several race related get offs and their suit protected me perfectly...including having a bobo land a wheelie on my back during a cool down lap (worst injury was a cut inside my mouth when my face hit the inside of my Arai chin bar as I was mashed into the fuel tank, prior to skidding down the track, wondering wtf just happened). One second waving to corner workers, next second...skidding on my back, wondering where my bike was. Was racing a ZX-6R at the time.

Hope that guy paid for all your shit!!

I have a Kushitani semi-custom suit and I think it is world class...only crashed it once but it held up very well.

Vansons are not the trendiest suits, and no MotoGP racers wear one, but for the guys in the trenches, who need a durable suit that will handle the occasional spills and still be ready for the next run, they can't be beat.

Great quality (heavier leather - they they will weigh more than most of the European makes), and service make them tough to beat.

Rarely see anyone wearing one out here on the left coast but great suits. I bought one used and still have it. It weighs a ton but I feel like I'm wearing a suit of armor , literally. I race in a Kushitani which is a fine suit but the leather thickness and the Vanson armor is superior. Love the double zipper bib too.

A lot of drag racers in the U.S. wear Vanson suits (I know the sales guy)...they focus on that and the local roadracing, but not the International scene...self promotion has never been a big part of their marketing..(see post above about "laid back" attitude)...taking nothing away from their quality or customer service!!!
The suits are heavy, takes some getting used to...(if I remember right, my suit weighs 20lbs with back protector??? can that be right )

Nope. He came up to apologize immediately afterward as I was walking off track, and as he opened his mouth I said "Just get away from me." He never said anything and walked away.

Too bad you weren't closer to their factory (Fall River, MA.) they have a great discount rack, and you'd be surprised what you can find there!!

I am 5'8" and wear a 46. The legs were shortened by Spyderleatherworks. It fits perfectly.

While Vanson makes a great suit, I might look elsewhere. You could find a lighter, better looking suit with less break in time for the same amount of money in RS Taichi or Dainese. If you insist on custom I would look at NJK.

Default Leathers

I had Akoury in Laval, PQ build me a custom suit and would do so again. I think it is as good or better than Vanson's current stuff.

Less break in time? Vansons customs suits fit like a glove from the start. They were a little late in delivering mine to the point I got it just before I hopped on track. It required 0 break in time to feel good.

Even though they can be a bit heavy to carry I never noticed it while riding. I wont wear any other suit. Ive had a few really hard crashes and I walked away each time. Ive highsided, got taken out by another ride at about 125mph, been run over and it has done its job perfectly. The double zipper is also a very nice feature.

If youre getting a custom suit order it soon if you want it for the beginning of the season. They can be a little slow.

Thumbs up Vanson

I'm on my second jacket from Vanson. Wore out the first one. If their jackets are built like their suits, you can not go wrong. Great gear!

The suits are made with alot of leather. My Vanson suit (see avatar) was heavier than any other suit I have owned, including A* RaceReplica, RSTiachi Vegas Evo, Dainese LagunaSeca D-Stone and Komodo FX. A longer break-in is consistent with a suit that has more leather. The additional weight also contributes to fatigue. It is for this reason as well as the rather dated styling and high price that Vanson suits are rarely seen. I have read on the WERA Message Board several complaints about delays in delivery of Vanson suits.

In my opinion there are more attractive suits out there that represent a greater value. For example, RS Taichi suits are made from full grain leather that is silk screened. Manuf the suit with silk screening makes the suit lighter and stronger.

I would look into Helimot suits also. They are also full custom just like the Vanson.

Vanson is Amazing.

I live 30 minutes away from the Vanson Factory. My everyday riding jacket is a Vanson Cobra, basically the upper half of their race suit. I had to replace the zipper and a piece of velcro on my jacket. I arrived at the factory during one of their open houses, walked in (no reservation or anything like that) and an hour and 50$ later, new zipper and new velcro.

They are amazing. It's the only way i can describe it. Willing to do anything for a customer. I bought a pair of every day riding gloves from them. The off the shelf gloves fit fine, but for an extra $15, i was able to have a pair custom fit. Needless to say, they fit like a glove.
