Default ok..seriously now, Rossi is up to something

I predict Rossi to Ducati in 2011, hes starting to act up a bit too much at Yamaha, like a kid that kicks his mom in the shins because he wants his cheetos

Great drama.

I thought he was retiring. Guess not.

Rossi and Bayliss at Ducati 2011 after Stoner has dismal 2010.

Yamaha has treated Rossi like a king and the partnership was a most successful one even from a commercial point of view. But Yamaha also knows that Rossi won't be around forever and will move on once he finds a car racing series he can be successful into. I doubt he'll move on to rallies where Sebastian Loeb and the other professionals will surely give him a very hard time. Rossi does not race to finish tenth or even third for all that matters.
Yamaha is trying to appease both the old champion and the young upstart to keep all bases covered: a true gargantuan effort that most often than not failed miserably. Great champions (Senna, Piquet, Fogarty etc) cannot stand competitive team mates. They need the Gerhard Berger of the situation.
Personally I am still not 100% on Rossi moving on to Ducati in 2011, mostly for financial reasons. Honda on the other side needs a complete image makeover on the Italian market...

I don't see Rossi going anywhere. Through all of this he has made it clear that he wants to stay at Yamaha, and Yamaha has made it clear it wants him to stay at Yamaha. The fact Yamaha refused to make any counter offers to Jorge, and basically took a take or leave approach for the 2010 contract, shows they are willing to let him go, that Rossi remains the undisputed number 1 rider at Yamaha, and that Rossi will remain the number rider if Yamaha has anything to do with it. Hence, more than anything, all this talk just indicates that Jorge needs to find a new ride for 2011, i.e., Yamaha brought Spies up to replace Jorge, not Rossi. Since there are 3 competitive factory bikes and 4 aliens, I predict the bottom guy is going to find himself on a Suzuki or satellite team. Right now that is Pedrosa, so if things stay the same I would expect to see Jorge with Honda in 2011, and Stoner and Rossi staying right where they are.

All of Rossi's calculating will be for naught if at mid-season Lorenzo is ahead of him in the points. One of them will make the first move to re-sign with Yamaha, and the other will go elsewhere. If Jorge is beating or equal to Rossi, Valentino's bargaining position (basically saying me or him) is greatly diminished.

Rossi is still the GOAT, but eventually even someone with his skills will fade. I doubt it will be in 2010, but Lorenzo pushes Rossi like no teammate he has ever had.

A part of me hopes for a very strong opening half from Jorge so the politics and games can really get out of hand at Yamaha next year.

As Burgess stated (rightly or wrongly), Rossi develops the bike and one other guy on the other side of the garage just has to ride the bike. The fact that he purposely didn't even mention Jorge by name indicates that he views the guy on the other side of the garage as dispensable. While this was probably in part a reaction to comments made by Jorge of Rossi using his data, it does seem to indicate the view at Yamaha, which is why Jorge himself has complained that he is not appreciated at Yamaha. Moreover, Yamaha knows that they wouldn't just be losing Rossi, but Burgess, his team, and their combined developing skills, i.e., it would be a massive blow to their program. Therefore, my own opinion is that the point standings will have little influence on the decision. I personally hope Rossi does move to another team (things are somewhat stale in MotoGP), but I just don't see it happening. It will make for some interesting gossip next year though.

regardless of what rossi says I think he is truly scared of jorge. Rossi wants to maintain his title as GOAT and not have to go out with a loss, or on a bike that he developed that others could ride better then him. It's unfortunate that he would act this way instead of stepping his game up, as much as I like him this seems childish and lacking in character.

If rossi does go with duc for 2011 he will not likely have a successful season in 2011. Stoner has developed the bike and has been the only one able to ride the thing. As great as rossi is I don't think he could do it. while rossi si good at agjusting his style to suit a bike, the way that stoner rides that thing is not something that can be met with a style adjustment. I wonder if ducat would risk losing stoner who has brought lots of success to the team and their package. you have to remember that in 2012 they will have the new engine, of which I'm sure stoner could ride a similar chassi with simply a bigger engine dropped in..... sure rossi could develope a new bike but at what cost compared to stoner?

at the same time you have to remember that while rossi gets older (using that term loosely)the competition, the up and comers stay pretty much that same age....

"Yamaha have to decide between me and Jorge for 2011," Rossi is quoted as telling the BBC. "I have a great option to join Ducati."

then he explains.....

“She asked me what other possibilities could there be and I said Ducati, but only because it was by exclusion. I’ve never talked to Ducati about the future, but like I said yesterday I’ve already been in Honda, and I won there so if one were to think of something else it would have to be Ducati, but it’s more probable that I’ll stay with Yamaha.”

“Yes,I’m still having fun and I’m still in great shape and I’ve still have all the reasons to continue, but there’s still another year to go and it’s almost sure that I’ll continue and I’m almost sure that it will be with Yamaha.”

Now that is hilarious. Unfortunate that he would do all the work and let some one else take the glory? What world do you live in? In that case you just keep working and i'll take 51 percent of your check... its unfortunate that you'd not accept my offer.

Rossi is a sales machine and you can't discount the value that Rossi brings to any team... Sales, Sponsorship, Italian on Italian bike, and Titles. None of Which Stoner can touch in comparison to Rossi. Remember that Yamaha Says FIAT on the side.

All of those up and comers have how many titles over the last9 or ten years? That would be 2 for 9 or there abouts... thats a lot of holes in your arguement against Rossi, but keeping Stoner.

Ummmm, the Yamaha Motor Co just posted a massive loss and demoted their President. Here are some headlines from the REAL World since you don't frequent it very often.

Yamaha Motor worried about demand in developed World
Yamaha Motor net loss estimate 182bn Yen
Yamaha Motor to pay FY09 dividend of 0.00 Yen
Yamaha Motor sends 270 surplus workers to Toyota
Yamaha Motor President Kajikawa to be demoted due to poor business

And I believe they're selling more off-road vehicles than sportbikes so exactly WHAT is this Rossi sales machine you speak of? This is a company that dominated BSB, won WSBK and WSS, won MotoGP and they can't sell bikes. When it's all said and done, they will wish they had the $100's of Millions of dollars that they spent racing back.

He's the GOAT and won four of the last six championships, how much more stepping up does he need to do?

I think ppl really need to look at things from HIS perspective. Rossi isn't an engineer for Yamaha, he's their #1 racer and now the #2 racer is making head way into his championship run profiting from his (and his teams) hard work. It would only make business sense for him to make a demand like this to Yamaha. If he didn't, he'd be one dumbass business man.

All this drama is going to make one killer of a season next yr. Has anyone confirmed Rossi being pissed about Ben coming to Yamaha, that would irk me a little bit.

And what if Ducati does attempt to bring Rossi over, how fvcked up will that be for Stoner who brought them their first championship and most likely not their last?

So can you imagine how bad it would be for Yamaha if Rossi wasn't there?? Point is you cannot quantify his ability or lack there off by looking at one number... no one can tell, if he caused the sales to go up or down, but given the guys with the money who wrote his check are fighting to keep him, I would say they believe they are getting their moneys worth.

its a story of the tail wagging the dog, when the hell does a rider tell a team what to do and a manufacturer who they can have for a rider. Yamaha wants the manuf title aswell, why should they have to be held hostage by an ego, sure rossi has a lot of influence, deservedly, but then hold your chin up and do what you are supposed to do as a rider instead of thinking you run the company... that's all I'm sayin... your example is very cheeky!

are you mrgrn in disguise? reread what I said, never mentioned that he couldn't develop a winning machine. it was just an argument against the simple "rossi can do it" answer, just some food for thought.
don't get so defensive it's just arm chair talk

Ummm, NO ONE can buy anything close to the bike Rossi rides? The "crossplane crank" gimmick can be skewed as "Moto-GP inspired" but I'd say Spies dominating a production-based series did more for those sales than Rossi did.
