These are great. Thanks for the laughs.
This Moto-ST endurance bike actually had a small problem with a valve on the rear cylinder head which would have turned out to be a huge problem if not for the rider hearing something funny. I couldn't believe he was that keen and that quick to pull it over right away! Amazing really, as most riders when faced with this misfortune will just hear a noise and hope the throttle will just fix it by some miracle.
It did need a valve but it was fixed in 24hours including some overnight shipping charges. The offender was a rock that made its way through a vent hole in a belt cover. We added some mesh after that one to prevent any future problems.
The 8 hour race was going good the next day when 2 springs broke from a U shaped joint on the exhaust and the rider ran it over on the banking. We were 2 hours in and running 3rd in class. He came into the pits and said, "I don't know what happened but something ain't right."
I said,"What do you mean?" as I looked over the machine and initially missed this piece of the exhaust because it is inside and under the swingarm.
"Well it just kind of jolted real bad then made alot of noise.", he replied.
We started it up and then it all made sense. Way too loud!!!! He had killed it and coasted all the way in so we had not noticed it initially.
We tried to MacGyver it for about an hour and then another team fatally injured their clutch and gave us their exhaust. I am ashamed that I forgot their team name but they were very cool to do that for us.
We went down to last place in class, 19th I think, and then crawled back into the top 10 in class by the race end, missing over an hour and a half with the er exhaust issue. For us it was cool just to finsih after all this BS.
