"World Superbike sensation Ben Spies has opted to quit World Superbikes and move to the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad where he will join fellow Texan Colin Edwards next season in an all-American team."

that will be a big loss for WSBK, but a big gain for GP... & GP needs a draw

maybe Ben will be able to throw Val a few curves... maybe

That kicks ass!!! ALL TEXAN TEAM!! We need ExxonMobil or ConocoPhllips to step up and sponsor them... I hope TECH 3 gets a little creative in using the "TEXAS" angle for the Tornado & Terror!!

+1 but I also believe that Ben wants to bang elbows with Rossi and Vale will problem retire at the end of next year. Anyone up for Laguna or Indy with a HUGE TEXAS flag? I also hope they put on the bikes "No one messes with Texas!"

I don't know if Rossi will retire or not. IMO it depends on the F1 rumors of a third car for Ferrari. Rally driving would be a step down from MotoGP. He still seems to enjoy racing and hasn't lost anything. From what I read he was a bit chapped at Yamaha for keeping Lorenzo with Rossi doing the development work for a rider that might potentially beat him. But you cannot blame Yamaha for signing the best riders available.

He might leave Yamaha after 2010 but that could be to go to Ducati with endless Marlboro money. He would make more $$$ doing that than even F1. Or who knows, his name has such cachet that he could form his own independent team and use the engine of his choice. Rossi winning on a Team

"Valentino, how much money do you think you should be paid to ride for Marlboro?"

"How mucha you got?"

Can you imagine if Texas was to host a GP???? Don't think they have any tracks that would qualify... but that would be awesome!

It will be an interesting 2010 after which both Rossi and Lorenzo will be up for new contracts at the same time... ironically, Spies won't be, and will be looking to move up to the factory team also.... 3 riders... 2 seats! As much as Rossi might go to Ducati... he may also "nudge" Jorge that way or to Honda... who knows!!

So if Spies wins the WSB championship this year, and then goes on to win a moto GP title, that would put him in a pretty elite group of riders?...

Couple of reactions.

I'm glad james smug ass is knocked own a little, don't really like the dude. Or his riding, wsbk titles or not.

I hope Spies does well in gp and doesn't choke, but he doesn't strike me a choke boy.

Wonder how it will influence his wsbk title shot? Will he be able to keep his head straight to win it? I hope so. I like Ben and CE3, pretty cool team and I'd bet they'll be a lot closer than he and smugboy.

Doesn't surprise me AT ALL . In fact I was surprised when the rumour mill indicated that Spies had signed to ride in WSBK again next year . What's poor Colin going to do when momma's boy Ben blows his ass into the weeds ?! Rossi won't retire for at least another 3 years , while Burgess is busier than ever scrutinizing the other bikes to assess just how much development they need to be competative , in case Rossi needs to leave that sweet , beloved, perfect-weight-distributing I-4 .

I was just thinking the same thing.....how fast can Texas put up a brand new facility that can handle a GP race?

I think Spies is gonna do very well in MotoGP, though not win a championship his first year out... I highly doubt Spies is better then Lorenzo, Rossi or Pedrosa.

I'm kinda glad Spies is out of WSBK, he was too good for that series... LOL

Don't forget Stoner! I am hoping he is back... the stronger the field, the more fun it will be to watch!

I am not so sure Spies will do well in MotoGP...
If he does reasonably well expect Honda and Ducati to come knocking at his door with a briefcase full of money. Yamaha's future is Lorenzo, whatever Rossi does.
But again all depends if he can come to terms with the many intricacies of MotoGP.

I am sad for Spies that he has not yet been able to convince Yamaha to build a rotary powered GP bike. In my eyes, every Superbike and GP champion of the modern era should have an asterisk in the record books because they didn't have to compete against wankel engined machines.

Behold the awesomeness:

Me neither, but at least Yamaha has him locked up for a couple years.

I hope he proves me wrong and kicks ass in MotoGP, but it just doesn't seem to be the place for a big Superbike rider these days. I do think he's better than the last few Superbike Champs to make the move, but...

He's definitely made his mark in WSBK already, and I really hope he gets that Championship this year. There is something pretty cool about showing up for exactly one year, taking the title, and leaving those guys to fight amongst themselves again...

Behold the awesomeness:

Have you ever pondered a twin Wankel with counter-rotating center shafts with the whole arrangement mounted longitudinally in the frame?

Awesomeness piled on top of awesomeness with a side of awesomeness.

You're assuming Burgess will leave Yamaha, he would have stayed at Honda if they would have let him work with Hayden but Honda wouldn't guarantee it so he left with Rossi. Who's to say that he doesn't stay at Yamaha to work with Lorenzo or Spies if Rossi leaves Yamaha to ride for someone else.

errr, you might want to forget to copy/paste the spark plug part tho'.
