BTW, I was really enjoying watching that long and ponderous V2 cutting back inside the short and sassy (yet for some reason way off-line) V4 time and time again. While both of them tried in vain to catch an I4
The real V4 and the old status quo V2 tired to catch the Yamaha "virtual V4"
What you are seeing is a Aprilia at the beginning of its development whereas
the V2 is at the end of its development... Ducati has to be thinking about
homologating a V4...
Bet people were thinking the same thing with Chevy's pushrod motor...but the 350 keeps going.
You're a little obsessed, aren't you?
Ducati is still successful, why would they change?

True... but GM's resistance to change landed them in bankruptcy...
I made a prediction back in 98 that V4s would win the battle of engine
architectures and I've been debating it just about everyday...
True... Ducati's are currently successful but the future don't look good for
the old status quo V2...

“We made up for it to some extent in race 2, Ben more than me. I did
all I could to stay with Ben and Max but they were too fast today; in
fact the pace of the Aprilia, still in the development phase, is a bit
scary with a view to next season.
Over 10 years later and you're really no better off than you were when you originally made that prediction Aside from the I-4 Yamaha, which you desperately try linking to the V4 even though it has almost none of the advantages in that list you always post with those 1960's tan drawings of the crankshafts..........Ducati has hit the mark with their V2. Riders absolutely love that motor because it's perfect for the street. There's grunt everywhere in the power band and once people get to know it, nothing else could take it's place......I'm a HUGE fan of mine........
First, let's set the reason for bankruptcy straight. It had NOTHING to do with the 350 being used in their sports cars. More to do with paying outrageous pensions and giving in to the UAW.
And again, why doesn't he future look good for the V2? You can't win a championship every season. All the years that the I4 or V4 loses and yet, they still compete and come back.
As for Fab's statement, I bet he would have said the same thing about Ducati last year if he was even close enough to Bayliss at any point in the race. You have two factory guys that are struggling...one is injured and the other one is too busy taking out other riders.

True... riders will always love V2s but the discussion is about the V2s level of
competitiveness in the future...
That article is from nov of 2007. And they won the following year...and will continue to do so. Way to ignore the GM comparison.
I'm sure the engineers know a little more then a magazine article and don't tell the trade secrets for everyone to know.
A magazine article written by a non-technical hack. Wonder if the other pages of the article show more positives and that's why BLS dropped them?

Maybe you should do a little google research into cars?
And maybe you really don't get it. NONE of us are engineers, let alone engineers for any of those manufacturers. How do I know what Ducati is going to do? 10 years ago, no one would have thought some of these motors would be putting out 180rwhp on their sales floor machines, but they are. It's called technology. It's an amazing thing. You know, we go from big brick phones to tiny star trek stuff. Quite a feat.

So what engineering solutions do you see open to Ducati that they haven't
already done to the Big Bore V2???

No thanks... if I wanted to research a GM product... I'd go outside and look at our own 2003 Camaro...

Yes I get it... you're not an engineer... but engineering belongs to those who need and want it...
No you don't get it. Flat head Fords, man...geez. Seriously, you obviously no nothing about engines, period.

You're obviously not an engineer either. You know, this whole thing is like religion, nothing wrong with what you believe in, but don't try to rub it on everyone else.

You're right... the whole thing is like religion... because some people look to
the V2 with sanctimonious reverence and deem it like the ark of the covenant
too sacred to be divided up into 4 cylinders... but here's the rub... the V2
maybe coming to the end of it's development in WSBK...
