So here are a few stereophotos of miy bike. To view the image and get the 3D effect you need to do something similar to the "magic eye" thing. Except here what you do is slightly cross your eyes as you gaze at the point between the 2 pictures until a third central image appears, then once you have this third image(which is a hybrid of the 2 slightly offset left and right pictures) allow your eyes to bring the third image into focus. It might take a bit of practice for some while others might get it right away, enjoy.

What angle vs. distance between the two pictures do one need to get this right, when taking the shots?
You don't need too much if the subject is close to you, if the subject is farther away or if there is a lot of good background that you want to really pop out then you can make the angle greater and get more of the effect. The best thing is just to experiment and see what works. Be sure to keep the frame the same in the vertical dimension or else you will get a headache...
