Default Indy MotoGP

Thinking about going this year... anyone been there? What is the best place to live, best seats etc. Can you scalp tickets there or need to buy beforehand?

Any info will be appreciated?
Thanks

I went last year when Hurricane Ike was coming through...sucked. Anyway Indy is famous for having poor seating visibility, I was at the end of the straight stretch and couldn't see very much. I would try and get in the in-field if I was going to go again.

We went last year and had the time of our lives. Somewhat soggy but it was warm enough (late Summer) that most people didn't even bother with rain gear or umbrellas. We camped across the street from the front straight and could see the track looming over us from our campsite.....if we forgot something, it was a short hike back to our nesting grounds.

The people there were fantastic.....one of our guys forgot his ticket....no problem.....the guy at the gate asked where we were from....Georgia..."Oh, if you came that far, I am sure you had a ticket" and waved us in....EVERY SINGLE SOLE that we encountered was very accommodating.....everyone wanted us to have a good time and come back....no pretension, no attitude....impressed me.

We had grandstand seats at the end of the front straight that allowed us to see quite a bit but we spent most of our time just roaming around picking different spots to watch some of the action....that place is beyond huge......if you don't mind a bit of hiking, several different interesting viewing points are available. Our favorite place was actually on the fence behind the Ducati Pavilion which is where pit road dumps out into the track and then new infield turns.....it was so cool during practice and qualifying to watch all of our heroes "blat..blat..blat..blat..blat" by us.....they were so close that you could almost touch them it felt.

The campground was a blast....we had a party of about a dozen folks set up in a spacious area....our partying drew a constant stream of folks who came by to have a drink or two or three or........one total stranger called some pizza place and ordered a stack of pizzas which got devoured in just minutes.....all of us sure had a good time.

Don't bother to buy tickets ahead of time.....that place swallows up the population of some states.....it looked empty but actually had something like 92,000 on the grounds, or so they said. Just buy the General Admission and walk around the infield. We met a guy who had one of those fancy suites at the Start/Finish line and he invited us up to watch the race like the rich folks do.....we didn't make it.....had too much fun doing what we were doing.

Hope you have as much fun as we did!

IMHO, General Admission is the way to go. I went last year and have been to 3 F1 Races, GA is by far the best bang for the buck. Pick up your chairs/blanket and go to a new spot get a different view point, see acceleration points, braking points, different RPM ranges, sitting in one place gets old especially if your neighbors suck. Just show up if there are no cheaper GA tickets being scalped buy from the ticket office, I don't think that they'll ever sell out of GA. The 3 day pass is worth the price.

Thanks!

Anyone buy or know where to buy a pit pass? Do they let you meet the riders and see the machines?
