Default Summit Point Fatality

West Virginia: Motorcyclist killed at Summit Point

A sad day. You never like to read about things like this. My heart goes out to his wife, family, and friends.

The rider struck one of the bridge supports for the main entrance to the track. No one is quite sure what happened, as this is a an unusual place to have an accident at Summit Point. For those of you who haven't been there, as you exit T9, you climb uphill, under the bridge that allows cars to enter the track area by driving over the track, and start braking for T10 just after the bridge, in preparation for hauling down the front straight. You are normally WOT here, and I am sure that a 600cc bike would be something just North of 100 mph in this area.

I have only heard of one other motorcycle accident at the bridge (there may have been more), where a racer was pulling a wheelie on the cool down lap after a race, lost control when the front wheel came back down, and hit the bridge...injured by not critical.

Rest in peace, Chad.

That sucks...I wish his family the best. Bridge supports have been part of the cause of fatalities at Summit and at VIR. The weird thing is, they are on a straight portion of the track. Not good to hear...

Been a rough year for club racing/trackdays in fatality department for sure.

R.I.P. Chad.
