Keeps the blisters from forming.

I do it also.

My 1000 was a handfull and would kill my hands the 600 not so bad on the hands.

It can take the stress of the hand muscles and nerves, hence you don´t get sore hands and maybe wrists.

Seeing as you've pictured Toseland...he's taping his hands before pulling on the 8 oz. gloves and stepping into the ring for a few rounds with Edwards. At least, that's what some here would have you believe.
