A VERY sweet looking bike. One curious point about that particular bike, however, is that its engine uses undersquare dimensions (52 by 58.6 mm bore and stroke, its stroke is even longer than on the WR250X!), a rather odd choice on a small four-stroke that needs to call on high revs (and hence valve area) to generate competitive power. Not sure what the engineers at Yamaha were thinking when they penned that one....

It has to do with European license limitations. 16 years-old are limited to 15 hp 125cc bikes on the road and this bike is simply a road going YZF-R125 in track form. Gone are they days when you could have a 125cc two stroke putting out 30+HP for your sixteenth birthday...

I would imagine the long-stroke configuration must make for a torquey engine but it severly limits the hop-up potential of the engine. Regardless, it`s a very nice bike

Actually, I think that it hints that it is not overbored in stock form and, thusly, is a prime candidate for an overbore kit. Prolly a lot of potential in that motor.
BTW, they have been selling them in Europe for years now....this is not a new bike.....I saw one in the window of a Yamaha dealer in Lisbon years ago....got pics somewhere....will have to look.

Actually, I believe the YZF-R125 was introduced in 2008 only. The same engien is now being offered (for 2009) in the WR125 (R and X) models too, albeit in a slightly different state of tune.
That motor seems to be a bit small for a big bike. A 125 4 stroke would go nice in a RS125 much better and lighter. Or put a 250 4 stroke in that nice R125 Yamm chasis. But I guess this bike was made for the street so they needed a bigger chasis??? My
In the latest BIKE magizine the Yamaha comes out on top over the Aprilia RS and the CBR125 in that order.
Myself being a 2 stroke guy found it hard to believe it finished ahead of the little RS. Had to test against a non power valve (learner legal) model???
