Question Rossi with Monster $$$ ?

rumor of the day?

'Mostro' Rossi: si prende anche lo sponsor Kawasaki - Moto Gp / Moto - Tuttosport

Despite economic downturns and Kawasaki’s MotoGP cost-cutting, it seems that the MotoGP world will stay afloat just on Valentino Rossi and Yamaha. A marketing machine in himself, Rossi has just signed a new contract with energy drink Monster, ex-sponsor of John Hopkins.

The Rossi-Monster two year agreement is a sponsorship worth 2.5 million euros, with an extra half a million on the table should Rossi win the next world championship. The Monster-Rossi accessory range is already available, with hat and helmet adorned with the three-scratch “M” logo.
It’s not the first motorcycling sponsorship for Monster, with a Motocross deal between the American company and Team Yamaha’s Rinaldi brothers, including David Philippaerts and Joshua Coppins in MX1.

Rossi, a personality by nature or by marketing selection, you choose, still manages to create a spectacle of himself, whether looked on by motorcycling experts or not. Another case to prove that it’s all about the publicity, not the sport. At least someone is keeping up the business end of the MotoGP in all this economic crisis.

Why would one automatically assume it's Hopkins' money going to Rossi?

Monster has lost two big advertising surfaces recently - James Stewart and Kawasaki's Moto GP team. They have money to spend.
Heck, is Kawasaki definitely contesting AMA this year? Think about it this way - Monster's got to get its logo somwhere people can see it. The Supercross title sponsorship is still there, but what else?

James wasn't getting super-paid by Monster and that's why he left. He was forced to wear the gear without much compensation as his team was sponsored by them. He had to terminate his Red Bull contract (after they gave him a Bentley) to avoid the energy-drink conflict. That's why he wanted out of the Kawi team. Both sides claim he wasn't offered a contract and they were going w/ Villo but anyone with a brain knew he was pissed at giving up the Red Bull money. And then, boom, he's with Red Bull again on the Yamaha.

If Hopkins is unable to fulfill his contractual obligations to Monster (i.e., compete in MotoGP) then he has no claim to the money and, thusly, it is not HIS money....it ain't your money if you can't honor your contract.

You need not feel sorry for Hopkins. He has very deftly managed to parlay his "skills" to earn vast sums of money without actually having any results to justify the money paid him. Not being critical, just noting the obvious.

No, no! You got it all wrong. If you never ride well enough to warrant a good ride, then u can always claim that you were on shitty rides and wobble around perpetually without anyone every questioning why you're actually ON THE GRID!

What you guys are all forgetting is there is more than enough Monster money to go around, the young kids drink more Monster over red Bull, probably due to the size difference(Yes Size does matter) and look at Red Bull, they sponsor the MotoGP race at Laguna, tons of riders, and they have a Nascrap team and 2 formula 1 race teams(four cars) that alone has to cost about 150-200 million a year! So in closing they would want Rossi(better exposure) and they would want him to continue changing his helmet designs(More Exposure)

How cheap do you think one could pick up a left over Hopkins/Monster replica helmet for???? My kid likes it but $700 no frikkin way!!!

I like this move by MONSTER. I have been contemplating which new helmet to wear/buy for the upcoming year, and I like the MONSTER Arai very much,...but I could not subject myself to wear something endorsed by the completely NON-PERFORMING Hypkins.

Couldn't u just act like it's a Ricky Carmichael NASCAR MONSTER helmet? He's doing quite well in the lower ranks.

I don't think he would have to "honor" the contract, this is where "frustration" would come into play (...I think)

Not when it has Hypkins' name on the back of the helmet.
