Default Custom VFR

I kinda' hate to post this given all the V4 hatred BLS inadvertently builds up on this site but I'm so jazzed about the latest mods I can't help myself.

Folks who frequent VFRdiscussion.com have probably seen it before over the past 18 months or so (aka the RCBVFR) but for those here who haven't it started out as an abused 96 VFR750F. Short version: I took it down to the frame and added a 2003 cbr600rr front end to a 2002 VFR rear end while keeping the 96 VFR middle plus the numerous other things that entail in such a build.

Over the past holiday break, I changed the cbr600rr lowers from silver to black, added 3rd generation VFR wheels, added CF side covers (next to seat/tank), and went back to cbr clip ons. Plus a bunch of small detail stuff I don't feel like typing about.

Rolled her out of the garage today for some pics and riding.

I wonder if you could squeeze a VFR800 engine into an RC51 chassis..

Doug.....still the most fantastic VFR I have seen. Remember, I am the guy who pestered you so much when I got ready to do the same thing to my '97?

We got the '07 CBR600RR front end on and gauges pretty much hooked up and now for the body work......which we are going to start on this weekend....I should have taken your advice on the front end swap and gone for an older CBR as it lowered the front four inches and it is a bit of a stretch for a short guy like me......the handling is completely night and day different....in a good way.....totally love my bike....thanks for the inspiration...will post pics soon.

Default Awesome VFR

I love VFR's and having owned the 86 Red White Blue 700cc and then a white 93 VFR... I still miss them

Just can't take pushing all the weight they have today, but wow, building one like that would be great.

GREAT WORK and detail... Any thoughts or final costs on this one?

Fairly easy. The upper fairing stay/instrument bracket is totally different but I was able to utilize the side and lower fairing mounting locations with minimal modification.

For me, adapting cbr1000rr gauges was the most difficult part as I didn't really know WTF I was doing!

Benefiting from more modern, lighter designed bodywork with a lot less pieces, full aftermarket exhaust, and removing numerous unnecessary stock items, this 4gen weighs about 70 lbs less than my former 6gen vtec (weighed side by side on own scale). I've since added the heavier 8 spoke rear wheel so it's probably a few pounds less than that now.

Umm, costs? I'm never gonna' add it up! Being I was sailing uncharted waters, I did buy most of the stuff used on ebay so that helped tremendously. I bought the bike wrecked but was able to sell quite a bit of it off to help with the costs.

Default Rcbvfr

Doug,

You know, you really #$%^& me off.

BTW, you gonna come up to Dallas and help me build the RC211V rep?

Seriously, you pioneered the whole VFR>CBR transformation, and now I just HAVE to follow.

Nice daily rider.

You rock,

Larry

very nice bike indeed looks, like it was ment to be that way from factory.
And nothing wrong with weight loss on a bike ever.

I like it!

I don't understand why nobody is doing VFR based RC30 (or RC45) TrackDay Replicas. Wouldn't it be pretty desireable?

Definitely would sound nice.

Funny you should say that. I call my project the RCBVFR because I originally went with an RC45 tail section.

But it just didn't work with the undertail pipes which was a must for me because I wanted the rear wheel completely open. So, I went with the VTEC VFR design instead.

It might have looked more homogeneous if I had added the RC30 or 45 front end but I all ready had too much time/$$$ invested in the CBR front end.
