The full fruit of the acquisition of Husqvarna by BMW will take time to grow, but Husky is already displaying a new model at the Intermot . . . a 2009 SM 450 R. The new SM 450 R is slightly lighter (1 kilo), receives a new frame, and a number of changes to its engine intended to increase performance and durability. Among other things, a new headlight design is readily apparent.
We have not received full specifications, or other details on this new Husqvarna model, but we will pass them along in due course. BMW is expected to eventually revamp Husqvarna's entire line up, of course, but it has only owned the company for a short period of time.
I sold my 996 and never looked back! My Husaberg FS650 is more fun than any sportbike I've ever owned.
I've riddeen the 600 (I forget which version) Husaberg. I couldn't believe how hardcore it was comapred to anything I'd ever ridden. Suspension was so great and it handled, truly handled beyond belief. Even more than any Ducati I'd ever ridden and Ducati's certainly handle. I rode it back to back with the KTM equivalent and the personalities were night and day. The KTM was excellent as well but the hardcore title went to the Husaberg.
I will own one.

I see I'm in good company, I've had my '06 Husaberg FS650C for 2 years now, I've got a full factory "Lineaweaver" motor done by Dale himself, along with one of his prototype quick shift kits, I LOVE THIS BIKE! The only knock is on a lot of S/M tracks it's like killing flies with a cruise missle!

There is no doubt you will love a SM type bike, but remember, if your using for the every day commute, you might want to look for something you can put on the highway.....I ended up buying the Ducati Hyper......LOVE IT too....I still have the 1098/996/749S, but I love riding the Hyper around the most! I was looking at buying a roadworthy 450 or 510, but after owning a KTM SMR450, it wasnt enough power for me to enjoy! They are a blast and addicting for sure!
sure wish they would freshen up the sm610....Husky race sm's sure are looking SWEET, but definently not into the maint. requirements of this power plant.....

I agree, most US supermoto tracks are setup in parking lots which means 2nd gear or 3rd max on a Berg. I take mine to road racing tracks to let her stretch her legs! I also take her to the local MX track. I've never had so much fun on a bike!
A few pics of my big bad berg!
At New Jersey Motorsports Park Lightning 100+ mph going into turn 1...
The only real hard braking turn on the track, left just after the bridge. I passed a lot of sport bikes on the brakes here...
Keeping my Dunlop KR's toasty...
At the MX Track with intermediate rains. More traction than you would imagine!
