They stole Thornstein's Shark Fin design.

BMW seems dead serious about building a performance bike. This isn't some oddball boxer twin with shaft drive and weighing in at 500 pounds, ridden by a guy whose best career finish was fourth in the Upper Bavarian Heavyweight Restricted Twins Endurance Class...six years ago.
In Xaus and Corser, they have perhaps the best pair combination of talent + experience of any team in WSBK. It will be interesting to see who wins first next year: BMW, Aprilia, Yamaha, or KTM. It is not a matter of if , but rather when .
This is a great direction for BMW to go, as long as they also don't alienate their Viagra base. Get 'em hooked on BMW early, and they can be a customer for decades. Even if they give up bikes, there is always the M5 finances permitting.

It's to remind everyone of the competitor bike that has all the engineering integrity and quality at half the price.

What's wrong w/ the paint? Race bikes look best in during pre-season testing, when they're draped in raw carbon fiber. Paint ruins their pure aesthetic anyway.
On a side note, is anyone disappointed with all the mumbo-jumbo that's poised to come on the street bike? ABS? T/C? I guess I just don't care for all of that; motorcycles areinherently more visceral than cars and should stay that way. It seems like we're starting to lose that.
