Hey all, sorry if I missed it or something, but has there been a release of what is new for Honda in 09...isn't the dealer show in late September? Is it another big yawn?
Thanks

While everyone else is introducing new motors, new firing configurations and ground up innovation Honda plods along with a refresh of old stand bys and has once again shown how it continues to lose touch with the client base, in cars and in bikes.
Nothing against ABS on a supersport motorcycle, I think it is a good idea if it can be shut off, but it is hardly innovative from the world's leading motorcycle manufacturer.
Honestly, did anyone really think they were going to release a V5 in any format let alone a full on replica. Hey maybe it's a late release but I'm not holding my breath.

Honda lost its mojo about 15 years ago. The last perhaps 10 years have been especially lean for them.
They are a non-precense in motocross and supercross anymore, letting RC go and not replacing him with anyone even close (Windham?!?) in competitiveness. It used to be either you rode Big Red, or you lost.
They have wasted billions in Formula 1 with a car no more competitive than the Villeneuve BAR days. They won't be any closer to the driver's or manufacturers titles in '09 either.
Honda has had its butt kicked for most of the last decade in superbike road racing too. The RC51 was a gutsy bike for them to make, and it was a success largely because of Edwards and Hayden. In the US they have struggled for a decade otherwise. Toseland put them back on top in 2007, but given the current rules I doubt he would have won this year.
In MotoGP with Doohan, Crivillle, Rossi, and Hayden they have won championships, but 2006 had as much to do with Rossi losing the title as Hayden winning it (not to take away from NH's accomplishment, he will always be champ). The Honda though is now the third-best bike after Yamaha and Ducati. Unthinkable just 5 years ago that they would have slipped.
On the production machine side they have made very good MX bikes, but so have other manufacturers. It is no longer half Hondas at the local track, but an even mix of red, blue, yellow, green, and orange. To me at least, since 1995 the only interesting new Hondas on the street are the Rune and RC51. Everything else is no doubt highly competent, but just bland to me. The CBR600RR is probably the most boring fast bike I have ever seen, while the 1000 is easily the ugliest machine produced next to the Kawasaki Versys.
Does Honda have the guts to produce another RC51 or NR750? I don't think they do. Instead they choose to pour another $400M into tenth place finishes in F1, and dedicate their engineering resources to putting a new hybrid powerplant in the Accord.
Earlier this year I had the "privilege" of riding a DN01 as part of the on-road assistance during a biking event (we had three DN01 kindly supplied by the local Honda importer).
I don't see who could "wagerly await" such a gigantic fiasco. If this is all the technology they can muster they'd better pack it in and bring back the good old CX500s and the like. At least they were well put together, or at least better put together than this monstruosity.
I agree with the ones of you who said that Honda completely lost its way: personally I doubt I'll ever buy another brand new Honda, unless the announced Pan European is a good match for the BMW R1200RT and with the same value for money...
