Default The Lounge

If the lounge is re-opened...

Is it possible for everyone to stay civil?

Is it possible to keep it from spilling over into the other forums?

Do it. Maybe, just maybe it won't leach over into other forums, but at least it will get the bullshit politics out of here for now...

Thanks Dave, now if everyone agrees with me we'll all get along just fine............

(how 'bout the option of no holds barred as long as it STAYS IN THE LOUNGE? Kinda like "enter at yer own risk!")

I think for the past two times its been open the answer to both questions would be no.

I don't know how you can keep it from getting to where it was when you locked it, other than having somone or a group of people you trust monitoring and locking/deleting threads and booting users when things get out of hand. I don't think you want to spend time doing that. However I don't see how you can avoid it, without the lounge things still spill over into the other forums.

I do miss the lounge. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep my job if you open it again, since I didn't get much work done at times.

Do it like Corvette Forum. They have separate "Off Topic" and "Politics" sub-forums. This lets the political zealots go after each other while the rest of us can enjoy more light-hearted, non-motorcycle related stuff. It's worked very well for them and they're one of the largest forums on the internet.

Do it like the admins on ADVrider forum do. When a thread, regardless of topic, descends into lowest common denominator (like this one already has) it goes into the bullshit thread bin, where the general population can pick at it like a vulture on a carcass. They call it "jo momma".

NO!

I can't afford to get sucked into the lounge again. It's like a giant sucking sound and my time is just too valuable. But hey, if that's what people want then let 'em have it. I'd vote for all-out anything goes but the "others" here get all puckered up when they read it and don't understand it so probably best to say no to personal attacks. Does that mean I can't call XFOB a dick sucker? Just wondering.
