If that's its real sound, I'll buy one for that reason alone.

Maybe someone will make a MOTOGP style exhaust for it; those underseat pipes are booty wack!
I've gotta admit though that while it's a step forward with regard to technological development/trickle-down, the bike itself is - in print - ugly.
Would love to ride one nonetheless and more to the point, hear one once uncorked.

I love the Japanese manufacturers . Constant development to yield ultra performance, with top quality at a price mere mortals can afford . The scary thing is that there is a team of engineers currently working on the 2011 superbike !

Clever move, by Yamaha. Retain all the handling advantages of the short I-4 motor, and get the rear wheel traction of the close firing-order (big bang) motors. Won't make a difference to the actual power/torque production /powerband in itself, of course, UNLESS they changed the motor's tuning.
EDIT: Just listened to the sound bites. I don't like it. Much prefer the screamer I4 sound. But then, I've never enjoyed the sound of ANY of the big-bang motors. Maybe it will sound more forceful with some open exhausts, but it'll never have the F1 car high-RPM scream, of course.

That's weird on the bottom of MCUSA's link above it said $9999 for the black version, $10XXX for the others.
At that price ($12500) and scales tipping in at 454# they can keep it!
I now wanna hear that Bimmer and see what that lists for.

Does anyone have a link explaining what "crankshaft inertia torque" is exactly?

At least it has an under seat exhaust - makes humping the tailpipe easier.
