COMMIEFORNIA extorts some cash from Power Commander
Biker News: Power Commander Fined by California ARB
AMA News & Notes - January 2008 - MotorcycleUSA.com
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced recently that it concluded an investigation against Dynojet Research, Inc. At issue was the company's "Power Commander" that can be used to alter the air-fuel mixture and engine timing of on- and off-road motorcycles. CARB said that the installation of these devices would adversely affect the emissions control systems of vehicles that were certified by the original equipment manufacturers to comply with the agency's emissions standards. Dynojet has now certified a California version of the "Power Commander" and has agreed to pay $1,000,000 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund.

What is worse is the whole red sticker green sticker deal on Dirt bikes. There is no difference in the engines and you really think a couple dirt bikes is going to make a difference. Idiots.

I used a chain saw today for about an hour at 16:1. I was expecting CARB to show up and arrest me at any minute.
They have clamped down on EVERYONE, not just Dynojet. Dealers are getting hit with huge fines nowadays. CARB is starting to enforce the rules and the first time fine could wipe out a small shop.
It's only a matter of time before we have to get our bikes smogged as well as our cars/trucks. The writing is on the wall. That's why I'm hanging on to all OEM parts-cans, PAIR/flapper stuff, charcoal cannisters... everything. I've even got the old emissions stuff from my 86 Interceptor (may she rest in peace).

A few motorcycles get pinched for having non-CARB compliant emmissions. Meanwhile thousands of Mexican tractor trailers cross the border every day with absolutely no controls on what pours out of their stacks.
Insane...

I live in Kalifornia.... will I be able to buy the non-kalifornia model? what is the difference between the two? I would guess it would severely limit your ability to modify the maps....making it really close to useless.

CARB is an interesting organization...
They were created to clean up california's air back when there was little or no federal emissions standards. And in that aspect, they did great.
But, when the EPA stepped up and set up federal limits that were almost identical to the cali standards, suddenly there was no need for CARB anymore.
But just try killing off a govt entity....CARB had to tighten up their standards, or disband...and no way in hell was the board gonna step down from their nice high paying cushy govt jobs (and dont tell me about how CARB is 'non-profit', the board still earns a salary)....at the expense of joe taxpayer.
now every time the EPA tightens up their standards, CARB has to go even further with cali's standards or risk being disbanded.
I truly feel sorry for cali ppl, at this rate youll all be riding solar powered scooters that max out at 5mph soon.
BTW, I bet the "cali spec" PC3 will be an empty box with a bunch of wires that just feed the stock ECU signals back to the bike

Why wouldn't Power Commander just say that their box is for "Closed Course Competition Only" in California? Just like every aftermarket pipe.
I realize that California is the largest market in the US, probably as large as most of the rest of the country, but to make some BS "CA model" PC3 that does nothing seems the worse alternative.

I live in Phoenix and see this everyday.. why the f%&k do i have to jump through the hoops to keep my vehicles smog leagal while these folks roll right through with smoking and severly unsafe vehicles. These trucks are complete piles of shit that are overlaoded and not anywhere near safe enough or fast enough for our freeways..
WTF is going on here i cant be the only one that sees this?
We will be exactly like the UK here in another 20 years.. no guns and heavily regulated and (more) heavily taxed.. I think its too late for this country .. Austria anyone?

California sues EPA over rejection of its new emissions law - Jan. 2, 2008
Basically forcing the Automakers to up the milage ave. on it's production line. Yes......California's market appears to be that big.......at least California thinks so.

$1,000,000!
Ouch.
Could of just put a "off road use only" tag on it.
I see hydrogen fueled, and electric plug in bikes in cali's future.

All we can do is pray for that "BIG" one to hit and wait for that place to fall into the ocean.

CARB did the same thing to West Coast Choppers about a year ago. I fired off an email to them (Wst Coast Choppers)suggesting that they relocate to another more business friendly state that would welcome the sales tax revenue from the large ticket items they sell. CARB hit WCC with a $300,000 fine or something close to that number.
They went after West Coast Choppers in the same manner for building and selling bikes that were not emissions compliant. Realistically, not many of them see much road time to begin with. So for the fines they levied against Jesse James, he should have uprooted the company to someplace else. Then they would see the CA sales tax coffers a little lighter from that point forward. DyonJet should consider the same.
The state of CA would soon regret the loss of total revenue versus the stupid fines they are imposing.
