Tinted screens? Squid or not to squid?
Bought an MRA racing screen from Desmoworks. Beautifully made product, excellent service. When I was buying it, I had the option of clear or tinted. Without really giving it much thought, I chose tinted. With the same thought that I give the choices "nuts on your sunday?" or "with or without salt?".
After I got the screen on my bike, I thought it looked pretty cool.
Then it hit me, my helmet shield is tinted, why did I get a tinted screen?
The more I thought about it, the more squidly I began to feel.
I may have just as well ordered a chrome screen or a carbon fiber screen.
I mean the reason I bought the racing screen was so I could get behind it in a tuck and look through it which is difficult with a standard screen.
So the question is this. Is their a rational benefit to a tinted screen or are tinted screens for squids?

Dood, the color of your screen does not determine whether or not you're a squid... Being a squid is the only thing that makes you a squid. If you are truly worried about how others percieve you and/or your bike, you should probably let your riding do the talking.
No matter which way you choose to go, there will ALWAYS be people who will disagree with you- so whats the point of asking???

Not if you use my simple definition of Squid:
Squid: Someone that assumes more risk when riding than the person calling the name thinks is reasonable...

I think you're ok as far as your knees are behind it.

squid is wearing flip flops while riding. A tinted screen does not a squid make.

Some have answered pretty much what I think as well, #1, I am very surprised to even see a question like this, as when "I buy" something for "MY" MC... I don't really care what anybody else thinks! I bought because "I Liked it"
After all, take a look at the back of MY RC51, do You think any one likes what I did there? I bet next to NO One does but guess what, I don't really care because I like it!
I Hope this Helps....

i have an iridescent screen on my 749 for track use. bought it because it goes nicely with the rattle can'd gold paint job.
if i had to do it again, i'd consider geting a clear one so it's easier to videotape through.

I bought my RC with a tinted screen. I tried looking through it while tucked. I couldnt see shit! Its too dark... I haven't done any track days so far so I haven't really had the need to change it. I would rather have a clear one but am too cheap...

I decided to buy a double bubble screen for my rc, and said to myself," myself, which ever one I find on sale first, the smoke or clear I'll buy." Well I found a smoke one on sale first, bought it and I like the looks of it.It does go good with the rc's front. Keep in mind that I don't spend time tucked down under, one, because I'm 6'1, and two, I don't ride like that on the street. If I had to do it over again, I would buy the clear one, and if I had a track only bike theres no way I would put a tinted one on.
