A diffrent knee slider question
So I just purchased a new set of leathers with the velcro on the knees for pucks. Now I am a street rider that who will never touch a knee to the asphalt. What is the correct style here....Pucks on or off? I know I should just put a grinder to the puck so I have the look but really.....what's the point. I know this looks like a another silly poll....and it is, but I am serious. Is it proper to leave the velcro are ampty of anything?

Or buy a set used from one of your faster buddies and put them on...
I finally had to buy another pair as mine were so old that the glue for the backing was coming off.

On my street leathers, I never put knee sliders.
I just don't see any point doing that.

All relative, my dear....you live on a featureless terrain. so all roads are straight and flat, kind of hard to get a knee down on Dairy Ashford or FM1960...some of us live in more interesting topography...fifty miles north of me are the Blue Ridge Mountains....and kneedragger nirvana.....US129 up to Blood Mountain is puck scraping heaven....as well as GA 60, the tightest twisties you will EVER see on a public road. Kneedraggin' is just an everyday ride in the woods here....like American Express sez "don't leave home without them".
The Tail of the Dragon is further north but pointless in going to as we have it all right here in our backyard.....45 minutes from my house. BTW, Porsche North America and Audi fly journalists from all over the world to try out their cars on these roads.

Put them on or leave them off, it doesn't matter.
How is this for ya- A couple years ago I had a pair of fieldsheer leather pants w/o pucks. I was dragging my knee and wearing the velcro off so I bought pucks to put on them. Now I have a 1pc suit w/ pucks and have not had a knee on the ground yet.
I'm sure there are guys with clean/no pucks that are a hell of a lot faster than guys with pucks that are worn down. My riding is street only anyway, there is no prize for being fast. The only prize is coming home in 1 piece. I ride more cautious than I used to. Riding in Blackhawks and Chinooks in the military was great, riding on the lifeflight chopper is no fun.

+1 on the track day to drop a knee
Put some new pucks on and who cares what others think. Are you really concerned that people are looking at you and saying "look at that cat he's got virgin pucks"? No one is going to care! If you take a grinder to em, you wont be able to match what true asphalt looks like and the direction of the slide. IMO you would draw more attention to yourself with grinder pucks, than wearing virgin pucks!
If you do get a knee down on the street watch out for Botz Dotz (those plastic markers in the middle of the road) first time a puck hits that, you will know it!

Something else to think about here:
Even if you never touch a puck to the ground on purpose, it's not a bad idea to have them on there. Think of it as just one more piece of armor on your leathers. If you crash, it's possible (though admittedly not very likely) that you could strike your shin bone on some object that could potentially cause injury. A knee puck in place may just make the difference between a broken leg or not.
It can't hurt to keep the pucks on...

How the hell do you know these roads (straights)???
Were you one of those squids go up and down the road and throw wheelies???
Were you? Tell me, tell me!!
garysol1, I'm sure one of these track/race gurus are willing to donate their retired knee pucks.
There you'll have some big poser item.
Heck, if you can wait, I can even give you my girlie knee sliders.

I'm planning on checking GA out this summer. Usually, the gap is as far south as we head, but I'm thinking about making it the northmost starting point of our ride this year.

Why not just stud yourself with wheels?
I Vote for pucks on, but upside down like a penniless racer who grinds down one side and then has to reverse them instead of ordering a new set.

Well I wore mine for 2 years with never touching down, that is till last summer on a twisty back road, I touched down and stayed down through the whole corner.... Now it's just a natural occurance... street or track.........of course I live in the center of the universe when it come to motorcycle riding and beer, here they are the best in the world..... no matter which direction you travel from here they both get worse the further you go I speek from experience on this..... I lived in New Mexico for 3 years..... flat straight nothing roads and shitty american beer.... I was so depressed there I didn't ride for over a year and quit drinking
