yawn,,,,it sucked and I want waste my time on it anymore. The supercross was the show and well worth the price of admission. Damn 450's are bad ass!!! Pastrana doing a backflip at the finish line and eating the whoops alive was awesome. Whoops finally won the battle. Streetbike crashs everywhere you look no helmets and blood on the pavement not a good thing way to much ignorance in this world, buy a $500 Arai and go to the parking lot strap it on the bike and ride off without a lid on.........STUPID!!!
Too many damn loud Harleys and want a be Jap bikes. People that can't ride for shit in the way. Other than that had a great time weather was wonderful the ride down and back was good did 715 miler the 1st day only stopping for gas did it in 11 hours 30 minutes. Total trip 1700 miles!! Averaged 41 mpg at 80~85 mph. Camping was excellent nice new shower house. The superbike race was to short but those 1000's haul the mail screw a 600!! The new yamaha 600 was cool looking as a flame thrower. The M4/Emgo bikes were loud as hell especially the 600 Geoff May was on.
Next year I'll watch it on the couch at the house.
I went 8 years in a row. At first you couldn't move if you where in a car. Last time I went you couldn't even move on a bike. That was enough for me. Don't see myself going back anytime soon.

And yet, the stands are completely, utterly empty. It's such a disgrace. I have a better time at Road Atlanta every year.

I went for ten years as a spectator. I would rather spend the $$$ on enetering a race at Jennings or Road Atlanta now...especially since the FX 200 became a reality. I have no interest in watching 600's for two hours with significant players not bothering to enter.
It's funny how the helmet law was brought up. If you look you'll see that about a third of the riders killed this year were wearing helmets. The remainder either weren't wearing a helmet or it's reported as they weren't sure if they were wearing a helmet.
I am not reading between the lines on this I've hit my head on the pavement wearing a helmet hard enough to knock me out for 30+ minutes without a helmet that day I would be dead no question about it. If your a gambling man go ride without one, I don't gamble so mine stays on even for those around the block rides near the house I am know to do.
Roy, I'm sorry we didn't get together. I was pretty busy with my little gang of friends and the Ducati Day this year, so I apologize for not calling. I need to spend more time than just four days to get it all done.
I saw one of the crashes on the ramp from Speedway Blvd. to I-95 South. Saw the road closed off and a sheet over a body....yuck. It's sad to think that there's 18 families whose lives are changed forever perhaps because of someone's decision not to wear a helmet.
Oh, by the way, I feel as if I met God on Saturday...I shook hands and talked with Kenny Roberts Sr. He's been my hero since I was a pre-teen (so a LONG time ago!!). I was walking thru the pits and looked over and he was walking right next to me, all alone. I don't get awed by celebrities but I darned sure was sweating and stammering when I talked to him, however he was very nice and accomodating as we chatted for a few minutes. Wow. I still almost can't believe it. I met The King.
All in all, the weather was good, there was some superb racing and I got to see my friends, some of whom I see only at Daytona every year. So it was a good Daytona experience for me once again.
No problem, I was caught up in the friend thing also with no time to do anything. Everytime we went near our bikes in the parking lot we had a least a 20 minute conversation about them with total strangers who were intrigued by the Adventure bike look. It got so bad one day a guy walked up and started rambling about the V-strom "how ya like it" "I'm thinking of getting one" I looked at him and said "sorry POS don't buy one" he walked off
It was a nice trip, weather was great. Yep I seen the crash on the ramp you referred to Saturday afternoon as we were headed up I-95 trying to get the hell out of Daytona to burn up the slab back home. Had some squids mess with us up 95 no helmets and shades, me and my friend ran our bikes up the 100 mph just cruising and it was funny to watch the squids pass with their hair and face about to be peeled off. 2 miles up the road the law had radar hitting the V1 on my dash, funny to watch the squids try to back it down at the last minute,, friggin idiots!!

Not trying to start anything but if you stated "It's sad to think that there's 18 families whose lives are changed forever perhaps because of someone's decision not to wear a helmet. " but only 12 out of 18 riders weren't wearing helmets. This info can be found in the Daytona paper.
Thanks Hans but that's where the "perhaps" comes in. I read the post before mine where it stated that not all fatalities were without helmets. Just coverin' my arse.
