It wasn't this flat when we stopped. It went dead after it cooled off. There were however, MASSIVE blisters at all of the chunk spots. each one about the size of a 25 cent piece and raised about a 1/4". Looked like it was just about to blow apart. Can't find anything sticking out of it so if anything punctured it, it broke off at the head or something. Tire only has 4200 miles on it (came on the bike when new) and it's never been riden hard and I always check tire pressure. It was at 41 lbs. when we left the house this morning. Now it's at zero.

2 more miles or so, and my wife and I'd be in the emergency room I think.

41 psi? Wow. Imagine what it would have been when you were riding as temps went up - 45? Maybe 46 or 47? Seems like a pretty high tire pressure to me.....

Well the tire says 42 psi cold, and to be fair, I ran up to the gas station to fill up and then measured so it was probably around 38 psi cold.

That 42 psi is a max recommendation. Depending on your tire brand, I suggest 35 fr / 35 rr for the street. I believe Michilens work at a exen lower pressure. So it really depends on the tire brand. Also your pics aren't working for me....sorry

Yeah the pics come in and out. Yahoo isn't always the best host.

And yeah max is 42 for the Dunlop D208. Normally I run about 38 when riding two up, and 32-35 when it's just me. I don't like riding too light with my wife on the back. The tire becomes too squirrelly. Kinda like it was when this happened. It was like riding on a water balloon or a breast implant (only not as fun)!

You might know more when you get that tire off. It seems to me you may have had a slow leak from a punture, and you could have been riding on it for quite some time with very little pressure in it before you even realized there was a problem with it.

Were you guys riding on the freeway for some time? Two-up, at freeway speeds, with air leaking out certainly could have led to those blisters...

Yeah we were on I95 and rode for about 5 miles or so before I pulled off at a rest stop. I'm sure there's got to be a puncture, but whatever did it, isn't anything sticking out at this point. If it was a nail or something, the head must have come off.

Maybe that is the source of Michelin's chatter problems? Nail-proof tires might just be too stiff.
