Default Daytona Supersport race

I just noticed the Supersport race is 22 laps - is it always that long? That's several laps longer than the Superbike race. I doubt anybody has run 22 laps on one set of tires in practice, so I wonder if any contenders will have to pit for rubber?

I doubt it on a 600. MotoGP bikes do more laps then 22 on a hell of a lot more powerful bikes.

Didn't seem to be a problem. Fastest lap of the race was Lap 22!

I mis-typed. I was really trying to ask if lapped riders might be a problem, but it sounded like I was asking about the tires. eh eh...

I didn't really expect them to pit, but I thought somebody at the front might run a little too hard and have some tire trouble. I felt a little stupid watching them run so hard at the end.

How amny people started the Race? Damn looked like 100bikes on the start!! And what's Up with Honda? AMA needs to make some kind of rule for the factories to compete on specific races... Not pick whatever you think you can win the cham[ionship..

An actual supersport prepared Honda is not powerful enough without using HRC parts internally...not that the Honda teams haven't done it before. And they are really, really heavy compared to other manufacturers.

Privateers understand that. So, it's not a really a choice for them.

Best part of a DOT race tire is good for 12 to 18 laps at full tilt. So, in any AMA race, which has a specific length, mileage, you're going to try and play a game to save enough of the tire to really make a run at the end to either break away from the guys behind you or try to get by the leader. Bad start or poor qualifying position? Well, you're gonna work the tire hard in the beginning and probably ruin your run at the end.

They started 56 bikes, and I think the leaders got their fist lapper on Lap 8. That guy had run off course or something early on, they started really getting into lappers on Lap 11. I don't think lappers really were a problem, although Spies got stuck twice in a row going into T1 when Tommy, Rog and Hacker all got by slower groups, and Ben didn't quite make it.

BTW- Damn those Suzukis were loud!
