I have always had that fear myself....esp where I live...with all the loose dirt. Gotta love a windy desert.

You go messing around on the highways and this is what will eventually happen. This guy should have been doing corners at the nearest roadcourse insted of playing car-tag out on the highway. I used to do this sort of stuff until I wised up and went to the racetrack. It costs a little to do a track day, but at least there aren't cars out there that will run you over after you crash. It is not a matter of IF you will crash, it is WHEN.
I had to sell my street legal bikes because I couldn't control myself. Now I have only racetrack stuff. I do miss riding on the street, but with all the idiots in their cars out there and all the temptations, it is just safer to stick to the track.
I hope this guy came out OK, but it doesn't look good. I saw a few pics of a crash that happened somewhere in OK., there weren't any pieces of this guy larger than a basketball. He had full leathers and all the gear. The leathers were torn apart, and the helmet was broken nearly in half. It said something about him going 174MPH, but I didn't get any other details. It was UGLY.
Another victim of too much speed mixed with all the other factors that occur on the highways.
Ride safe guys/gals. Lets prove the critics wrong. You know that they are all waiting for us to kill ourselves, so they can say I told you so. Make wise decisions, I know that it is hard not to twist the throttle when you have 150HP on tap, but there are times and places for everything, the trick is to know when that time is.
I have ablsolutely no simpathy for the rider...keep it on the track It's like no one thinks about impact/crash zones when they do stuff like that...trees, cars, guard rails, fence post...
I did not see the video(im on dial up at the moment) or know all the details but the comment that got me was 'he deserved it'...lets see:
He was in leathers
He was doing cloverleafs...usually an area of good vision, not much traffic, and a chance to take a lap to see if road is clear.
Keep in mind, me included, not everyone knows about track days or even the MSF, especially when they are newcomers.
No sympathy...you must be perfect and not just on motorcycles but anything you do. Using your mentality...anyone who crashes at a track day...deserves it. Take it up a notch...anyone who is not racing for a living and crashes deserves it(I dont agree but only the pros are paid to ride all out and the other competitors know this). Oh wait...unless your bike is in perfect condition, you deserve it...were you trying to get one more session out of those tires?
I can go on and on and the bottom line is know one really deserves it. There are some who feel if you choose to ride a bike and something happens, you deserve it. Not the same but similiar.
I feel bad for the guy........no one deserves to low side and then slide into on coming traffic like that. I don't know about you...but if I dont have that type of speed exiting a cloverleaf...my ass will get run over on California freeways.

I'd seen that video before, but that didn't make it any less disturbing seeing it again.
I've just about given up riding on the street. I see so many squids giving the rest of us a bad name through guilt by association.
Then, there is the challenge of doing everything right while riding, and still trying to survive not getting taken out by inattentive drivers who are doing everything but drive (cell phone, make-up, shaving, reading, PDA, dozing, clueless, etc.).
Last, but certainly not least, is just trying to get from Point A to Point B without some guy in a WRX or Corvette or Belchfire 500 wanting to race...or even worse a squid on a bike who wants to do the same thing.

That is such a bullshit statement. Nobody needs to drag knee through cloverleafs just to be able to merge into traffic. People driving Geo Metros are able to routinely enter freeway traffic without "getting run over". If you can't accelerate into traffic on a motorcycle, you need to plug in all the spark plugs.
I'm not saying this guy in the video "deserved" to get hit, but don't try to act like it was anything but him trying to play boy-racer on the freeway while his buddy videotaped it. The guy left himself absolutely no margin for error, and he got himself bit...

In my last statement did I ever say that I knee drag cloverleafs? I don't believe I did. All I said is I have to that type of speed to enter the freeways here. I can generate that type of speed without knee dragging. I think any experianced motorcycle rider could do that without putting a knee down. I used to live in Arizona (Phoenix) and the cagers aren't as bad there as they are here trust me. I guess some members can't sense sarcasim over the net....
